The power company recently removed an old power line pole, but the Spectrum wires were connected to it. Now, the wires are on the ground. I called to get the line buried, but they buried only one wire, and they left the rest. Should these all be buried?

I've just signed up for Spectrum internet and have the new modem and router. As I understand, the Spectrum router is not Thread capable, but I have a smart door lock that uses Matter over Thread and it worked great with the Eero as the main router/gateway.

I need to know for sure if I can keep the Eero connected simply as a Thread border router for the door lock's integration, but use the new Spectrum router for my actual wifi/internet.

Thanks

I was hacked recently. (I was using a Spectrum virus program) My email password was stolen. As a result unauthorized charges were made to several accounts. Anyway I decided to clean my hard drive (reinstall windows). After changing passwords. The next time when I’m on the web some accts won’t let me get in or too many attempts made when it was once. Is it my email address causing this? Because it also happens on a completely different off site work PC?

I know enough about networking to understand there is a problem here, but I do not fully know the language to convey it meaningfully. Apologies for what I am about to do here, but this is a summary from Google Gemini after I asked it to arrange my findings into a summary that a technician would find useful:

SUMMARY:

I am experiencing severe outbound packet loss disrupting my live-streaming traffic. I have isolated the issue using concurrent PingPlotter traces. Traces to Anycast DNS (8.8.8.8) are clean, but traces to Dallas-based media ingest servers (Restream and Picarto) show consistent packet loss originating on intermediate edge nodes ending in spectrum.com / charter.com.

Because this loss is localized strictly to these routes and occurs entirely within the Spectrum core network prior to the handoff, this is an internal Spectrum routing or peering capacity issue on the path to these destination ASNs (Autonomous System Numbers). Please escalate this traceroute data to your Network Engineering/NOC team to review the outbound transit paths for these routes.

I have swapped out my old Spectrum router for the latest model and configured that earlier this week. I've already been on the phone with support and escalated it as high up as they are allowed to take me, so now that I've jumped through the hoops and confirmed that the issue is not with my home network or its equipment (negating that Hop 1, the router itself, commonly deprioritizes ping requests so I am ignoring the packet loss there) hopefully this can be looked at.

I'm not going to be a jerk and whine and say I'm a professional streamer and this is my livelihood, because I am not. This is just my only real social outlet and it's upsetting that I cannot play games or draw pictures with my friends without the stream just cutting out abruptly. I have 19Mbps upload and I only broadcast at about 3 to 3.5Mbps so I am not exceeding any kind of limitation. It's been fine for months, if not years with only minor hiccups, but this has been persistent following some gnarly storms we had in the TX gulf coast a few weeks ago.

I'm a Spectrum residential customer, and I also work for the company whose site is being blocked — I want to be upfront about that. I found this as a customer, on my own home connection, before anyone at work knew about it.

Spectrum's Security Shield is blocking rpstrength.com as a suspicious site. It's a false positive. Here's what I ran from my own Spectrum connection today:

curl.exe -v

< HTTP/1.1 302 Found

< Location:

The site is clean on Google Safe Browsing and VirusTotal, and loads normally on every non-Spectrum network I tried. Disabling Security Shield in the My Spectrum app immediately restored access on both my phone and my PC, which confirms the source.

The part I'd really like someone to escalate:

Over HTTPS, there is no block page at all. Security Shield can't present a valid certificate for the domain, so the TLS handshake just breaks. The user sees a bare ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR — "this site can't provide a secure connection" — with no indication that Spectrum blocked anything, or that Security Shield even exists.

So from the customer's side, the site simply appears broken. I spent a day assuming the company's servers were down. They spent a day assuming their infrastructure was broken. It took packet-level debugging and a lucky plain-HTTP request to discover Spectrum was in the path at all. Since virtually all web traffic is HTTPS now, this means Security Shield's blocks are effectively invisible to the people they affect.

That's a bad outcome even when a block is correct. When it's a false positive, it means affected customers have no way to understand why a site they use every day suddenly stopped working — and no reason to suspect their ISP.

Requests:

Please recategorize rpstrength.com and all subdomains (including www.rpstrength.com and training.rpstrength.com) as a legitimate Health & Fitness site and remove them from the Security Shield block list. A URL verification form has already been submitted.

Please pass upstream that HTTPS blocks with no user-facing block page are close to undebuggable for customers.

Happy to provide any further logs or testing.

I have an UPS to which my router, my switch, and my cable modem are all connected. We just lost power, and the whole home generator kicked on (as expected), so nothing runs from the UPS for more than ~20 seconds. (It says it can run for ~70 minutes under current load.) The router, and presumably the switch never lost power (it's unmanaged so no logging). My assumption is neither did the cable modem. (Verified it's plugged into a powered socket, not a surge-protected socket on the UPS.) However, every time we lose power, I have to reset the cable modem in order to regain internet access. The cable modem log shows this at the time of the power outage: "Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 time out;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx<redacted>;CMTS-MAC=00:90:f0:25:00:00;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1;" Based on this, it appears as though Upstream scheduling is broken — the CMTS is supposed to periodically grant my modem's specific Service ID (SID) a private "unicast maintenance opportunity" slot to do ranging/keepalive. It's not doing that for my modem specifically, even though it's still broadcasting to everyone. After ~30-40 seconds of not getting its own slot, the modem's T4 timer expires and it's required by the DOCSIS spec to tear down and fully re-initialize (re-scan, re-range, re-register, fresh DHCP). Can I get someone at Spectrum to check if there's a known issue with stale SID state on that CMTS after node power events? Some CMTS software versions have documented bugs with this.
FYI: This is 100% reproducible on every outage.

I'd be happy to supply my address in a private chat if that will help troubleshooting. Thank you in advance!

We're losing our internet services every morning now for a couple of weeks. It's happening mornings between 5am and 8am. It has also dropped some evenings. A Spectrum tech came out, however could find no problem with our modem connection while he was here (9:30 yesterday). We replaced our modem with Spectrum 2 weeks ago. Problem persists. Router's running perfectly. Spectrum had major long outages in are area when this began. The tech checked our inside connections, however I never saw him check the outside boxes which was done in the past. I suspect there are glitches in the lines somewhere. I see folks saying it may be a maintenance issue that Spectrum does maintenance between midnight and 8am. It may be caused when a large new neighborhood wakes in the morning. Our problem is this shuts down critical security camera feeds. It is also very frustrating to get up every morning having to first go to our studio to reboot our Spectrum systems. What options do we have?
