NHL Center Ice Issues

Rich44203Rich44203 Posts: 12 ✭✭✭

So many problems with NHL Center Ice. First year subscribing on Spectrum and it will definitely be my last. Pittsburgh and Washington is blacked out tonight in Akron/Cleveland for no good reason. It's not on NHL or NBCSN. This comes after numerous games not having the home and away broadcasts as advertised. And the picture quality is just awful. Lots of image blur during any action.

I apologize for the issues you are having. With NHL Center Ice the NHL determines what games are shown in any given area. That is not determined by us.

But the question remains - is this a technical issue? Neither Pittsburgh nor Washington are local to Akron/Cleveland. When checking the Zip Code for blackout status only the Columbus Blue Jackets should be blacked out on NHL Center Ice games. The whole point of NHL Center Ice is to watch out of market games. Tonight's game is not on the NHL Network or NBCSN. No reason for it to be blacked out.

On the channels the games are on does it show the message that it is blacked out or something else?

It has the graphic from the InDemandPPV service that says it is blacked out locally.

    Hi Rich,

I would recommend using the" Contact Us" page for the NHL for the answers to your questions. They control all the games and market content for Hockey broadcasts. In this case, Spectrum, like all the other TV and mobile monthly providers, is only a broadcast distributor. Here is NFL's Contact Us page:

Do you have an new HD TV? Particully if it is a 4K model, you may want to check the "Motion Settings" on your TV to determine the setting that can provide sharper close-up images, especially if the fast motion blur is on all channels.

If it is not on all channels, this could be an issue with NHL Center Ice on their distribution end. Something that you could submit using the above contact form. On the other hand, if you have picture pixilation or blank screens, this could be a signal issue on Spectrum's end.

    Satch.

...and here we go again. Tonight's Pittsburgh Penguins / Islanders game is incorrectly blacked out in my region. The NHL advised that cable, satellite, etc. has to follow the zip code map for black out rules. THE ONLY TEAM that should be blacked out per my zip code is the Columbus Blue Jackets. And, of course, when there is a national coverage of the game. How do I get a refund on the NHL Center Ice with Spectrum, so that I can take the $$$ I spent on it and order it directly from the NHL on nhl.tv? This is obviously some sort of an error with the InDemand service that Spectrum is using for NHL Center Ice.... Check for zip code 44203... only Columbus is to be blacked out per the NHL rules.

    Hi Rich,

Are you seeking a refund on the whole NFL Center Ice Package or a certain percentage back of the order? It sounds like this is happening a lot and all that I could suggest would be to call Spectrum Customer Care and get your money back on the NFL Center Ice Package since that is very expensive and the viewing experiance has been frustrating for you.

This is a peer to peer support forum, so our mods can't do too much for billing. I think that you are at least entitled to a minimum of a 50% credit off NFL Center Ice, but I don't know what billing is going to be able to do here. How many games on NFL Center Ice are you able to watch without issues? If the NFL rules are what you claim, it sounds like Spectrum should be broadcasting those games.

I'd call Customer Care to speak to a billing specialist. Hope you get a nice rep! Any other Community Suggestions?

Pittsburgh and Columbus are blacked out in the 441 zip codes of Cleveland. Also, remember sometimes your ip zipcode is sometimes different from your physical zipcode. For example zip code 44240 Kent OH is blacked out for Pitt and Columbus..

I spoke with a rep at iNDEMAND... they confirmed the blackout should NOT be occurring in 44203. They are contacting Spectrum about the issue. Kent would be blacked out for both Columbus and Pittsburgh. Barberton / Norton should not be. Curious about that, are Pittsburgh games aired on AT&T Sportsnet in Kent? Or is that an area that blackouts claim a territory, and the games arent even broadcasted locally?

    This is an interesting thread,

Let's see what happens here. Rich, at some point, you should get some compensation for sure.

Does Spectrum go by IP zip code or postal zip code for Sports Package blackout rules? I would think that it would be traditional post office zip codes. IP zip codes would be too confusing for the average person who ordered a sports package and just wants to see the games.

Ip addresses would be an issue when streaming nhl.tv from your Spectrum modem. I had to turn in a modem that would not reset to a Summit County ip address. Canton is another area, like Kent, where the Penguins claim a territory to be blacked out. My modem kept having an ip address for Canton, causing nhl.tv to black out Penguins games in Summit County. Which was incorrect. Blackouts are a mess anymore. It shouldn't be this hard to watch a game!
