Moving from TiVo to Spectum Cloud DVR questions

Currently have Spectrum connecting to a TiVo Roamio and 3 Minis with cable card, tuning adapter & MoCA. Happy with their channel choices. Considering moving to Spectrum Cloud DVR. Mostly used for time-shifting & viewing recorded programs on an iPad while traveling around the US & other countries, not for long-term program storage. TiVo has become a big hassle due to support, buggy app, etc. I have Samsung or other Smart TV's around the home.

I've heard that the user interface is not as good as TiVo. Can Cloud DVR be operated with a TiVo remote control, Samsung remote control or is there a Spectrum App that might be better or easier?

I heard that you must have either Apple TV & Roku to operate Cloud DVR. True?

I've heard that fast forwarding and commercial skipping is not as good; freezing the picture so you need to guess when it's complete.

Can I start watching a program that is currently being recorded (a football game) but not yet completed, skip the commercials & half-time to catch up?

Can the viewing speed be increased 20% like TiVo while still being able to understand the audio?

Is there a limit to the number of programs that can be recorded simultaneously?

Are there any restrictions on viewing programs that are currently being recorded or already recorded when outside the US?

What other questions and concerns should I ask to avoid "gotchas" and disappointments?

Comments and links to YouTube videos showing Spectrum Cloud DVR in operation would be greatly appreciated.

I’m currently “grandfathered” on a Brighthouse plan of TV & Internet. Must I change my plan or can I simply add the $10 monthly Cloud DVR charge?

How much does the price increase after the first year (zip code 48331)?

    Good morning @BobCowen

    To answer your questions.

The TiVo remote is not supported by our services so parts of it might work but it would probably not be a direct mirror of one of our remotes.

Apple TV and Roku are great but no they are not the only ways to access cDVR. Here is a list of devices that support our Spectrum TV App (scroll down a little bit to see all the devices). In our home we use the app on two Samsung Smart TVs and one Roku, and all our devices :).

Here is a support page (with video) to "Explore the Spectrum TV App" and you can search on that site for support on all the devices that work with our app.

Here is the cDVR FAQ page to answer your other cDVR questions.

You would need to switch to a Spectrum TV package to add cDVR. I would suggest you call the Sales team at 1-855-707-7328 and see what possible promotions the would have for you. They would be best able to help you upgrade/migrate to a current package that suits your needs and budget. They can also share with you the rate whatever package you pick would be after a promotion if one is applied to the account.

Thanks for the great questions and as always, anyone with insights/tips is encouraged to share them!

    Randy

Is it true that you can't watch a program until it's finished being recorded? I watch sports starting 30-45 minutes after the game begins. That limitation would be a deal-killer to me if it's true. Comments? How much does the price increase after the first year?

    @BobCowen,

Currently, the pricing is $4.99 per month for Cloud DVR and $9.99 for Cloud DVR Plus, which reflects the retail price. At this time, it is recommended that you allow the recording to complete before beginning playback. Starting the playback before the recording is completed may cause errors. If an error occurs, the entire recording may be corrupted and unwatchable. For viewing while a recording is in progress, a traditional DVR is the best option.
