How to update firmware on Arris SB8200 modem?

Just had a chat with a Spectrum support agent who told me they won't push a firmware update for 3rd party hardware. Is this true?
The Arris SB8200 rev4 is on the Spectrum approved device list, so it seems like something Spectrum would do.

Good evening @bcrudisill and welcome to our Community Forums
Thank you for reaching out to us in regards to a firmware update for your personal modem/router. We can only update the equipment we provide to you. If you are needing assistance with completing a firmware update on your personal modem you can reach out to their support team or their website for instructions on how to complete this.

Thanks for the reply, @Lyn_T.
According to Arris:
DOCSIS standards dictate that the service provider must distribute firmware updates to cable modem devices. The end-user cannot simply install an update like most other network-enabled devices.
CommScope develops the software update and makes it available to service providers. The service providers qualify, test, and distribute the software update to devices on their network.
If they send Spectrum the update to distribute to their approved devices, then why is Spectrum refusing to do what other service providers are doing and push the update?
@bcrudisill,
Just adding for clarification, any firmware updates need to be tested and approved by our engineers for use on our network before they get pushed to devices.
To expand on what James said, Spectrum only pushes new firmware code where it is needed to maintain your modem's functionality, without causing any harm to other modems that were provided by Spectrum.
