Channel selections complaint

DonCon54DonCon54 Posts: 3 Spectator

My monthly charges just rose by $17 per month. Right now we have available (4) NBC channels while we have only (1) CBS channel and (1) ABC station. If either of these two channels are off the air or have some type of interruption, I don't have an alternative to watch. As much as we pay for this service, we should have more than one channel for each network.

    Hi @ welcome!

We provide the signal the networks use to broadcast, however we do not make programming decisions, including decisions about the number of local channels. Individual networks may make additional channels available for a number of reasons, including access to over the air content and streaming access.

Your question would be better directed to the individual local network affiliates.

    Thanks!

Only under certain circumstances which can come into play in metropolitan suburbs does the FCC allow cable simulcasting of two different broadcast affiliates of one major broadcasting network within one broadcast area. Each cable simulcast of each major network-affiliate broadcast is bound to include an SD simulcast of the HD simulcast so you should have two cable channel numbers for each although you wouldn’t necessarily realize that one of them is mainly for SD-only cable boxes because there aren’t very many of those around any more and HD boxes can actually alt-tune the HD channel with the SD channel number by virtue of the “tune HD” aka “auto tune HD” default setting.

That might be why you have four NBC cable channel numbers and if you peruse your channel lineup, i’d be surprised if you couldn't find a second one, each, for CBS and ABC.
