What would cause a clicking noise on my landline phone?

It's gone now, but earlier the phone was out and when it came back, there was a clicking noise that lasted for a few hours.

Good morning @deedleann824 and welcome to the Spectrum Community.
With our Voice service it runs through your modem so it could be a few things. There could be static on the line (the coaxial cable or a connection point). Or it could be static in the phone jack.. You can unplug and replug that phone wire to discharge any static that may have built up in the jack. And it could also be something on the other end with their connection.
However, if you are hearing it on all calls, try unplugging and plugging back in the phone jack on the back of the modem (make sure to keep it in the same port if there are more than one) should do the trick. If not, we would need to check your modem's frequencies to make sure they are still in range.
Let us know if we need to help further and have a great day!

It did resolve on its own as I mentioned. I was just asking what might have caused it in the first place.
