Why do commercial breaks during on demand shows come back to a different point in the show?

While watching on demand shows from our library, following commercial breaks, the show continues in a different place than where it left off. We have seen this with multiple shows (Grey’s Anatomy, A Million Little Things). It makes on demand viewing almost useless. We have seen this on two separate TVs (Roku and Samsung). This can’t possibly be how this is meant to work.

Welcome to the Community @ACGorham!
Some questions:
1.) How far back or forward are the shows going after a commercial break?
2.) Have you cold rebooted the Roku and Samsung TV's to see if this solves the problem? What about reinstalling the Spectrum TV app?
3.) Do you have a traditional Spectrum cable box to test this issue on that?
4.) Do other shows start/and resume from normal positions other than the ones mentioned above?
I would try step 2 and report back, and let us know about the rest.

I hate that kind of sudden-impact advertising that skips the program scene fade-out if not also the ad fade-in. I’m not sure what the angle is other than to squeeze an extra ad or two into the program run-time but i do believe it’s always the original network distributor that’s behind it, rather than any of the re-distributors. Either way, i hate it when that happens. 😡
