Why does Visual Voicemail require 'Mobile Data' ON when WiFi is available?

Samsung A14 5G, Why does Visual Voicemail require 'Mobile Data' ON when WiFi is available? I have Mobile Data OFF to prevent unwanted data usage.

    I don’t know but i think Android Visual Voicemail generally does require mobile data in order to be able download messages. It certainly does with VZW for example.

    Not that any phone necessarily requires any connectivity at all in order to be able to see and play Visual Voicemail messages that have already been downloaded, though.

    Welcome to the Community! Mobile data must be on to maintain the connection in the event that the wifi is not working.

    Visual Voicemail was working OK with Mobile Data OFF before the last system update.
