Exporting/importing contacts

I am trying to bulk import from Thunderbird's contacts and cannot find what version of vcard is supported. I have a little used email account and removed all of its contacts and tried to apply an exported list (.vcf) from my main email account and none were applied. Once upon a time, a .csv could be used to populate the contact lists. I would also like to sync address books across multiple email accounts.
