Internet speed

I recently went to visit my sister in NC and found out that her service by a company that is not a major player has internet speeds of 1 gig up or down. In my home area of upstate NY Verizon is starting to offer 2 gig service up or down. We have fiber service here. When is spectrum going to start offering faster speeds?
