What's the purpose of "favorite" channels/"filtering" ??

If I favorite just abc 7, why does it automatically favorite the "hd" channel too? Now I have 2 channels, that defeats the purpose of filtering. Also why does the channel start up on the "hd" channel even though I closed the app on abc 7, the fact it ONLY does that on phones/tablets and not the tv is weird considering it does not have hd
