being "logged off" the internet when going from one application to another. Any idea why?

Are you accessing the Internet via a traditional PC and browser, or a mobile device? Or both? Does this issue reoccur regardless of the device or browser being used? Can you reproduce this on another PC or device that belongs to someone else?
I would try clearing your history, cookies and cache on all browsers and devices where the logout occurs. Be aware that this will log you out of websites and you will need to reenter your user name and password to go back to them.
This might be a network issue. Disconnect your modem for several minutes and than plug it back in after clearing your history, cookies, and cache.
After that, close all Windows and reboot PC and other devices where the problem occurs.
