Why would just the VOICE light be out on my modem?
The router light was blue as was the POWER and ONLINE light on the modem. Rebooting fixed it, although the router light stayed red for a while.

Because the MTA was contemporaneously "unable to establish phone connection." Seeing as how all of the other lights were good, it seems possible that the MTA itself was simply in the midst of a config update or something like that but if the voice light stays off for more than a couple of minutes then you'd nevertheless want to power-cycle reboot the eMTA including waiting a couple of minutes before powering it back up.

Or should i say: reboot the eMTA any time you've a mind to. Start off by letting page 5 of the user guide be your guide but don't let that stop you. I'd give the phone light a minute to come back on before doing so but that's just me. I'm an unfrozen caveman. Your modern ways frighten and confuse me.
