Can I create a private network from my shared apartment network?

We live in an apartment where wifi is included, via Spectrum, throughout the entire complex. There is a router on the ceiling. The entire complex uses the same SSID. The network works great, very fast and reliable.

However, I use homepods and homekit devices and they constantly stop being available on my network. The homepods will be paired with the apple tv for a day or two and then drop off and not be usable anymore even though the homdpods are still on the Internet. My guess is that my devices are connecting to other apartments because they use the same SSID, but then because of that can no longer talk to the other devices. Does that sound right?

So I'm wondering if I can some other type of router that could connect to the provided Spectrum router and then create my own internal private network for my apartment that I can connect all my homepods and homekit devices to?
