New modem Hitron EN2251 won't let router connect to local network?

Friday night I decided to upgrade my internet plan from 600 Mbps to 1G which required new equipment. My (perfectly working) old setup was a Spectrum modem with my own Netgear Nighthawk router. With the new citron EN2251 modem, I cannot get my router to connect to the local network. Otherwise, the modem seems to work fine. I have tried endless power cycles, factory resets, chatting with Spectrum customer service, CAT6 vs CAT5 ethernet cable, and more. I deeply regret the upgrade and may end up back at the store asking it all to be reversed. Anyone have any suggestions before I do so?
