Watch For the Spectrum Guide (Cable Box Guide On Screen) Survey My Written Evaluation
Good Morning,
This is a survey about Spectrum's newest guide, Spectrum Guide for traditional cable boxes and DVR's, Personally, I rated the guide favorably. I think it was like 3/5 overall. They didn't provide a write up so I am doing that here, and it can be sent to the Guide Development Team:
Reliability/Stability Score- 8/10
On Demand- This needs some work, The biggest problem is that when you watch On Demand, it can take several minutes for the movie or show to show up in "My Library" and when it does, if you take a break from it, I guarantee that you will not pick up where you left off like on the older guides. You could be bounced way way back and have to fast forward to where you are. Now, if you are watching a show who's station management does not allow fast-forwarding, you have to start all over again!
Worse, you watch On Demand, press the Guide button, and you are kicked out of your show! I can't remember if this happened on the old guides or not. We had the older ODN Navigator, which actually had an "In Progress Bar" that was much better for "On Demand" than the current Spectrum Guide. That guide actually picked up paused material more accurately than "My Library in Spectrum Guide. On Demand Score- 6/10.
Keyboard Search-Needs Work. For example tried keying "Jets" I would expect to see "New York Jets" in the search. Oh they are in the system but you have to key "NFL Football" or start keying "N.e…w…..Y…o……r……..K……..J……"Oh there they are! "New York Jets.)
Also there are SD channels in the search that do not show up at all.in keyboard search This is especially true if you are running Spectrum Guide on a cable box that does not use the SD/HD filtering in Settings. In these instances, users must use the Time Grid a huge waste of time to attempt to find and record a show. I have no SD/HD channel filtering in Settings. SD channels that do not show up in keyboard search if the Settings filter is set to HD, or there is no Settings filter include:
Flix: (No channel name found in keyboard search,)
Boomerang; (Channel name is not found in search, but programs found on that channel are found.)
MGM+ Drive Inn: (No channel name found in keyboard search.)
Keyboard Search/Navigation Score 5/10. (Would move this up to an 8/10 when all SD channels in the system are picked u[ by the keyboard and keyword results get a little better.
This concludes my evaluation of the Spectrum Guide cable box software.
