SMTP connection suddenly fails
Thunderbird fails to send mail, with this message: "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to the Outgoing sever (SMTP) mail.twc.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections."
However the smtp server settings are correct because exactly the same settings work on the mail application on my iphone and on my ipad for the same email account.

Hi @robertbhamilton, welcome to our community!
I recommend removing and re-adding the email account from Thunderbird, and make sure you are using these email server settings.1 -
Thank you and I appreciate the suggestion, as a cold reconfigure can sometimes catch configuration items that are overlooked in trouble shooting. I discovered in this case however that the problem was that the wireless cable modem was blocking port 587 and so I had to change the firewall rules.
