New router won't stream paramount or sling

Recently, Spectrum sent me a new modem to increase speed. After installing, everything worked fine except for Sling and Paramount+. The sites load and I can navagate through them but when I start a program or show (paramount will even show previews of other shows), I get error messages:

Sling - Looks like a loading issue [8-702]
Paramount - Opps. We're having a problem playing this video. Please try again. If you continue to experience issues, check your internet connection or restart your router. Error code 3304.

Other streaming programs work fine such as netflix, youtube and Curiosity Stream.

I've spent hours, trying to solve this but nothing I've done changed anything.

Here's an interesting thing: Plugging my computer directly into the modem doesn't change anything nor does going through the router. BUT - I have 2 other computers as well as a smart T.V. that connects to the router through Wi-Fi. They all work with no problems but my main computer, which is hard wired, doesn't.

I've jumped through hoops turning everything off and resetting and rebooting and shutting off firewalls and virus protection, etc. etc.

Can anyone help?

Hi @vyzer, welcome to our community!

I'm sorry for the trouble streaming since getting the new equipment. Have you tried clearing your web browsers cookies and cache, or trying a completely different web browser? If you run a speed test do you get your full subscribed speed on that computer?

Are you using their apps, or accessing through a browser?

If the standalone apps, could be an issue with the app cache data or the app itself. Could try clearing app cache/app data (may require relinking device or saving user/pass again)... worst case could delete and reinstall the app.

Cleared cache and cookies a few times. Tried on Chrome, Firefox , Edge and Brave. Downloaded Paramount App but get the same result.

speed test = DOWNLOAD 391Mbps I believe the upgrade was from 300 to 400 so this is fine

Why it works on the wireless has to be a clue but can't find the answer.

Does this seem to happen on the same episode/show or is it on anything you try to watch? I know I've run into an issue with Paramount myself where some episodes won't play no matter what I tried.

anything I try. Tried random stuff too. But it's Paramount AND Sling. Again - previews play but as soon as the selected show starts - I get the error. somehow that's a clue too.

Sounds like something specific to the platform you are on, like you may be missing a particular codec support or something (works fine on other devices going through the same network and network devices, and other streaming services are working).

Have you tried reaching out to Paramount or Sling support channels yet?

As mentioned earlier, may be something wrong with the particular application being used. From Sling support on the particular error message you cited:

Another possibility is a bad hardware cache kind of thing... won't go into the details, just the typical remedy. This may take a while depending how many devices are in play.

Power everything down and remove power from your network hardware for at least 5 minutes (modem, router, switches, etc.).

Then bring them fully online one at a time from the wall outlet forward... modem first, then router, then any switches/mesh extenders if any are play).

It is important not to power them all on at the same time... you want one to fully boot first before moving to the next. Otherwise a separate device may not synch up properly with the modem or previous device, requiring a second cycle of one or more devices... this can trip up things sometimes if the modem reboots while a router remains up as well. Fully booting things up in sequence usually keeps things in check.

Despite following this shut down procedure 3 times previously, I tried again but clearing all data from chrome, brave, firefox and edge. Shut it down - started it all back up in sequence (lots of time between components as I was doing other things - everything down for 3 hours and at least 40 mins between modem, router and computer.

Shut all virus spftware and fire walls and tried the two streamers. Same results: error message as soon as the program starts.

That got me thinking that maybe it is blocking DRM programs - which makes sense since previews and such play - just the programs and shows have the error when they start (but doesn't make sense since netflix works fine). . So I checked widevine to make sure it was functioning - it is — turned it off — rebooted the computer — turned it back on — rebooted the computer and no change in behavior.

I haven't checked with Paramount or Sling yet. Since it happened with the change of modems from Spectrum, I thought I'd start here. Also - When I first started using Sling, I was in NM on comcast. Moved to CO over 5 years ago and started with Spectrum. It has run flawlessly the entire time I've had it until the modem change. I got Paramount around 3 years ago and it has been fine until this change.

Still suspecting it may be a DRM issue and there is a setting or so that I'm missing.
