When I try to use U.S. Phonebook, I get a message, "Access denied." and with MapQuest, the area where address are added is grayed out with the message, "Couldn't find you. Try again."

These sites were working for me just last week. I tried clearing the cache and these site's cookies, but that didn't help.

    Hi @deedleann824

Sorry to hear that you're unable to access some websites, I'm happy to help! What browser are you currently using? Is this happening across all devices?

Are you currently wired or wireless? When were you last able to successfully access the website?

I don't know the exact date I was last able to use these sites, but it was recently.

I do see here that you have our wireless service. Can you try accessing one of the websites from your mobile device to see if you have the same issue?

Ok, could we try another browser then to test/compare if there's any difference in behavior when trying another?

    @deedleann824:

If you have a recent Windows PC (2015 forward), it came with the Microsoft Edge Browser which is based on the Chromium Project . Same for Google Chrome, Opera, Brave and many other browsers. So you can test with one of those. Also try those browsers in Incognito or Private Mode. You can also try disabling all browser extensions and retest in both "Normal" and using Incognito Mode. This will take a little experimentation so take notes on what you try.

BTW, Firefox is not based on Chromium. Before trying another browser, you probably should try using it with all Extensions disabled in both Normal and Private mode.

My system is very old in electronic terms. I don't think any other browsers are supported except Firefox extended support.

All Windows computers will have Edge or Explorer by default, will you please test one of these? As @catchtwentytwo suggested try Firefox in private and disable any addons you have. Also, if you use a VPN disable it.

If you are using a really old browser, then some of those websites may have features that are preventing you from accessing those sites. I was a fan of Win7 too, but there comes a point where things begin to not work anymore as security protocols and website features advance, which is likely here.

Even with an older computer, you should still be able to upgrade to Windows 10 (which is about to be phased out, but it is still usable and functional). There is still a way to download Win 10 for free and upgrade to that version using the Win10 creation tool, which should solve a majority of the issues you are having. Win10 is at least somewhat similar to Win7.

Mainstream support for Windows 7 ended on January 13, 2015. Some businesses had "special" support until January 14, 2020.

This means no security patches or updates are available.

    Hello everyone,

As much as I am from the old school of "Don't fix what's not broken", given the age of @deedleann824 's computer and that there are no security updates for it anymore there are strong risk involved here. There are workarounds when Microsoft stops Windows 10 security updates like Zero Patch, which will support Windows 10 updates for another five years after 2025. (at least.)

But Windows 7 is simply too old, and with no updates available anymore, I hope @deedleann824 does not do banking or shopping online, This is really a huge concern. There's no protection from hackers or malware.

The moderators have requested that only they can link to authorized Spectrum sites now. so I can't provide helpful links anymore to insure accurate, secure, and up-to-date information. Also relevant to a Windows 7 PC. It's no longer secure or up-to-date.

I would recommend going to Amazon and looking for a new Windows 11 laptop if you are a mobile person, a desktop if you are not. You could pick up a new PC for about $200-$300 and it will be light years ahead of what you have now. (And won't break your budget.)

@deedleann824 , if you get a new PC, I recommend the following programs below:

If you don't want to pay for Microsoft Office, I would get Softmaker Free Office. I love it, you can get it online, fully compatible with MS Office file formats, and totally free. Users who just need the basics don't need Microsoft subscriptions.(Comes with Textmaker (Exactly like Word) Plan Maker (Exactly like Excel)and Presentations (Exactly like Power Point.)

Also offered online is an excellent photo viewer and editor called Irfanview. Really great photo viewer and editor!

The most secure Browser out there that you should put on your new PC is the Brave Browser, also available online. Built in ad blocking, tracking protection, and malware protection. Over time, as sites change, users will have more trouble with difficulties getting to them because older PC's that don't get security updates anymore can't sync with the newer technologies.

Another free office suite to try consider is LibreOffice. It has most of the features as Microsoft Office but is free to non-business users for Windows, Macs, & Linux PCs. It is well supported with frequent updates.

Just to clarify any misunderstanding, the link I removed previously was one that you posted for an outdated third party sales site that resells Spectrum services and the pricing structures were from (if I remember correctly) 2022 or 2023. It was also unclear if it was verified reseller or a phishing website. Support for Spectrum services and products should only be linked to spectrum.net or spectrum.com. While the Community Guidelines recommend users exercise caution before following peer recommendations, we will remove questionable links.

Links to general support, for example HP laptop support, a Youtube video, or Microsoft Outlook setup are fine, as long as they are legitimate, and don't promote either a competitor or something that violates or TOS (such as "how to sidejack a firestick"). So, links to directions for setting up email on an iPhone are fine, links to iPhone promotions at T-Mobile, or another competitor are not.

    Thanks!
