High Latency Between Node and Metro-Area Datacenter
Hello
I’m experiencing noticeably high latency between my old site (non-Spectrum) and my new site (Spectrum).
I am new to spectrum, my service was just installed last week. Several pieces of connection equipment were replaced on utility poles between my modem and the node, and the line technician showed me the test results after upgrades were complete, concluding that there was ***zero percent packet loss*** between my modem and the Spectrum node.
So physical connection is definitively solid (was very impressed with speed of installation).
I perform Remote Desktop work at home, so latency is extremely important for my application
My target is the 123Net datacenter in Southfield, Michigan
BGP range = 216.234.96.0/19
I can’t specify publicly which IP(s) / hostname(s) exactly I need to access, but could provide to engineering privately
These tests were performed with my laptop plugged directly into both modems, no other equipment in between and gigabit Ethernet connection for a controlled test
NEW SITE ~70 ms response time to 216.234.XXX.YYY
OLD SITE ~15 ms response time to 216.234.XXX.YYY
>> My old site (Non-Spectrum) and my new site (Spectrum) are 5 miles away from each other //// my new site isn’t far enough away to rationalize physical distance as an enabler for higher latency
>> Both sites have the modem connected to the node using Co-Ax (no Fiber)
>> I realize ICMP is not the same as RDP packets, but I can tell you using RDP at the new site is noticeably “laggier” than at the old site
I’m wondering if engineering can investigate a potential performance / routing issue / traffic management issue between the node at my new site and the 123Net BGP range / site in Southfield
Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hello @SkyNet3389
I apologize for any frustration with the latency. At this time it isn't something that we would be able to escalate as 70ms is within our acceptable range and doesn't indicate a network issue.

Six days later….
@Renee_T with your help?
Thanks engineering!
It's like the latency improved!
Love,
Mitch

@Renee_T is that response time acceptable if I switch to Spectrum Business?
