Searching doesn't find the titles, but Guide shows them!

Update,

Ant, 13, and I all still have the same problems.  B-button search not finding the titles on ODN keyboards on 75% of the shows, but they are in the system by selecting them the Time Grid Cells and pressing Select to take info on a show or series.

I assume but am not sure that our mod team works out of the New York Office, not sure, apologize in advance if I am wrong, so when James got the report from the main tech guys that this issue was fixed, it was for his market only.  (The mod team got a new version for their cities that fixes the B-search keyboard bug on ODN.)

The only thing is we didn't get the fix in any other markets. Updates can only come through automatic download pushes from Spectrum's servers.  Manual reboots won't release them and it is done during the 12am to 6am Tueday overnight maintence window.  (But any day is fair game for auto-updates.)

Typically update responses are East Coast, West Coast, South West, Midwest.  This happens usually over a 1-4 month period.  Wisconsin usually gets ODN updates about three weeks after Ohio.  So if Spectrum is treating this as a regular update push, we may have this issue until the update is released according to normal schedule.

If however, they push this update as an emergency patch and high priority we could get this within weeks not months.  Only the engineers know the priority level of an update.  Emergency patches are more for to keep equipment working.  The loss of a functionality like ODN Keyboard seach would probably be Medium priority at best.

    Update:

Box and search are now working exactly as it should.  ODN-keybpard advanced B-button search now finds all content, just like it did before October 2018.

Research, with help from the escalation teem, and guide engineers, identified the problem.  ODN advanced keyboard search (b-button) contains a filter, that when activated, forces a lot of channels and search content to not be found by the keyboard.  The tech team removed the filter and now the search works great!

I want to thank the guide team engineers and developers for seemingly solving this issue, and hope that this issue stays resolved for any others affected by it.  Thanks all!

I wanted to follow-up on this issue.  Rather than re-open or merge older and closed threads,  I'm going to start a new thread using your last comment.

As stated last week, the search issue was escalated and investigated and the network team determined that the search was working correctly, and the ticket was closed.  However, after seeing that you are still having an issue, we did some testing and we were able to duplicate the issue on one of our test accounts. Specifically, content for local NHL and NFL games did not bring back any results.  We tried a few different search criteria, including team name, city, and genre.  On another test account, we were able to get search results without issue.

I have reached out to the Guide team and some additional information is needed.  We would appreciate if you can provide the following:

    - Set top box model (no MAC id's or identifying information, please).

    - Guide version.

    - Specific examples of failed searches.  Please include what program you are searching, the search criteria or words used and the search results.  Screen shots would  work perfect for this, if possible.

    - The channel for each program.

Thanks in advance!  You can post the information on this thread so myself or one of the other moderators can follow-up.  Again, please do not include any identifying information.  We will reach out by private message if we need account information.

Thanks James_M. FYI, Ready Player One finally showed up correctly in my Arris DCX3510M DVR's search results unlike last week. Maybe it finally got fixed? I'll have to find something else to search for later. I will get the details if it happens again. There's not much on (new contents) right now for me to search at the moment due to the holidays break so this could take a while.

    Box:  CISCO DVR

    Guide Version: ODM/MDM

    Examples of failed searches:

"BON"   finds "Cressida Bonas", "Fortunio Bonanova"  and "Angel Bonanni" but not "Bonanza".

"IN THE HE" finds "Places in the Heart (1984) $"  but not "In The Heat of the Night"

"NBA B" finds no matches even when tuned to "NBA Basketball".

You can use the guide and press the "B search button and on at least half of the listings the program listed does not show up.  If instead you press the "INFO" button on the remote the program information comes up.

    Thanks James!

    We should keep this thread open until everyone's ODN Keyboard searches are working correctly.   Thank you for providing the above information.  Let me give you some general information first about my experiance;

1.) My box is a Cisco 9865 running the ODN Navigator Guide.  Specific ODN software. is the 8.1.0_14 version

2.)  It is estimated that over 75% of B-button keyboard searches are missing. for the past five weeks.

3.) All live Sports Results are gone from a B-button search.  For example NFL Football does not bring up any live games.  Sometimes a Search for NFL Football with bring up NFL Football Fanatic, which is an On Demand Program.  No live Tennis, No live Boxing.  Even Genre searches, which are supposed to bring up everything related to the search do not show content.  I suspect that NFL Hockey shares the same problem.  It's so bad, that Sports is not even listed as a catagory in ODN keyboard searches, neither are Sports Teams listed in keyboard searches.

4.) Fox News (48, 352, 1352) Fox Business News (82, 353, 1353) shows no B-search keyboard data  No keyboard search for any subchannel listings such as ME TV (19), Laff, (990)   Cozi TV(68) Antenna TV( 986), Bounce, 997) Comet, (988) Escape. (991) Bommrang, (109) GSN (4)-Match Game  Too much to even list.  Over 75% of ODN Keyboard guide content is missing

5.) All Sports Teams are gone from B-button search.  Green Bay Packers live games do not exisit on the ODN-Keyboard search here in Wisconsin.  I am sure that all other live sports have the same fate with the ODN Keyboard search

6..) All sports are now listed in the ODN keyboard searches are Series. There are no live sports catagories, all sports team catagories are missing from keyboard results..

7.) If lucky, a search will now only return one instance of a movie, and that instance will only be VOD, even if it is playing on other channels such as Showtime or Starz.

8.) A B-button search will often show Please Wait when fetching search results and than nothing.  Often times, not even a please wait.

    9) The only way to find shows is to go through the Time Grid find a cell with a program you want to watch and than press select to take action on a future episode.  Than, if you select Episodes, all the shows come up in the system.  They are in the ODN database system.  However, Navigator's ODN Keyboard does not find them.

10.) More to come with specific answers to the questions above to the best of my ability.  This has been like this for five weeks.

ODN 8.1.0_14, Arris DCX3600-M, Dayton Ohio

I've had the same issue since 1/12/18. Programs on WXiX (19), Cincinnati's Fox in Standard Defintion only, but with different local & syndicated programs than our in-market Fox affiliate, would not show up in search results. As with the other posters, I had to manually hunt for programs on the grid, then press Select to be able to record them. Pressing info instead would bring back a blank thumbnail, season & episode number, but would NOT show the Record, Record Series, All Airtimes or Episodes buttons. If a particular episode was airing on additional channels, pressing Info would show THOSE airings, NOT the WXIX airings.

After speaking to front-line reps, the problem was NOT corrected.

On 4/12/18, after an ODN version update, WXIX began appearing normally once again.

At some point thereafter (possibly after another ODN update on 8/7/18), searches once again failed for WXIX.

    On 12/13/18, this search/info failure spread to at least WDTN-NBC (2), WRGT-Fox (8), WGN (17), Fox News (58), MTV (60), VH1 (62), CNN (70), Viceland (136), Cooking (158), Escape (980), WPTD-PBS Kids (982), WPTD-16 Again (983), WPTD-16 Life (984), Laff (990), Dayton Spiritual TV-Access (992), Stadium (996), Comet (998), MTV Live (1267).

The front-line rep took down the information, but said that she "could not" escalate the issue.

On 12/15/18, the searches/info began behaving normally again, HOWEVER, search/info now once again fails for WXIX.

    Hi James, and all,

I'm interested in this issue as a tech guy myself.  I have some questions:

1.) In what former TWC, now Spectrum division, is box testing done in relation to forum help here.  I assume New York City?

2.) What two make/model boxes are being used in the evaluation of this problem?  Which boxes reproduced the keyboard search problem, and which didn't?

3.) Any theories from the Guide Development Team for ODN as to what is causing the missing keyboard search data?

    Satch

PS. @Chaswmsday post above has some great detailed issues about the missing ODN  Keyboard Search  data.  It appears for whatever reason, the data that the keyboard is responsible for finding does not hold .  I have always had a THEORY that the ODN Advanced Keyboard search was never as accurate as the older SA-model boxes (both MDN/ODN) that had the simplified title-only keyboard search.  The keyboard search was more restricted, (Title-based only), but the data never vanished like it does now on the advanced ODN keyboards   That ODN Advanced keyboard is a two-edged sword, just like the SA-model boxes MDN/ODN keyboard

ODN-Advanced Keyboard Search- Can search for more categories, but far less reliable in search results than the SA- boxes title search keyboard.

SA-Boxes and their MDN/ODN keyboard- Can only search by Titles on their keyboard, with Themed Categories across the bottom of the screen and along the left side of the screen.

Buzzword definitions- MDN (Mystro Developer Network for Navigator) refers to the old legacy SA- TWC Navigator boxes WITHOUT a C in the model number, when legacy TWC started developing Navigator in the Fall of 2006-Spring 2007.  These Boxes are really old about 15 years old, and for the most part had been taken out of distribution.

ODN- (Open Developer Network for Navigator.) Was designed to put Navigator on SA-C-model boxes as the FCC mandated cable cards in all boxes by July 1, 2007.  The C-boxes ran Java Virtual Machine, they still might, but because of this, all the SA-Silver boxes, such as the SA-8240-C and the SA-8300-C were running slower than the MDN ( no C) counterparts

ODN allowed legacy TWC to develop a more enhanced guide system for the Navigator platform and newer hardware and much faster boxes like Cisco/Technicolor, Samsung, Arris  that could now run a true two-way cloud based guide with expanded keyboard search, guide filtering, a new DVR Manager List, and enhanced filtering options.  The speed was there, the reliability was hit and miss.

In Mid July, 2018, my Cisco 9865 returned to the old SA keyboard search interface after some failed update and I had to reboot to get the advanced search and cover art back.  Considering how bad the ODN keyboard search is now, I have to say that I regret rebooting! LOL!  The point is that we know the modern boxes that run ODN Navigator have the ability to go back to the SA-menu screens and simplified search.

I had proposed the ability for all ODN boxes (Spectrum Guide is a different OS and does not apply here,) running Navigator for the ability to go back to the SA menu screens, while Navigator's cloud-based search system is down or being updated.  At least we would be able to find our shows in this regard!

    Peace,

    Satch

    More thoughts,

Just thinking of how a keyboard search system could lose over 75% of its data listings? I think there was a small update to ODN Navigator last month that did something really unexpectedly bad to the ODN keyboard search database.  Can anyone share if Gracenote, who does the listing data could have also accidentally contributed to the missing keyboard data?

I have heard of issues like the one poster above shared with maybe one or two channel listings not coming up on the keyboard, but not over 75% of keyboard search data missing before last month.

    All,

Thanks for your patience while we investigated this topic.  I have been in contact with the teams that support the guide as well as researched our knowledge database for additional information.  The following is what we have found.  (Disclaimer: the information provided is accurate at the time of posting, but is subject to change).  Also, there was a separate issue in November where the B Button was not showing accurate results.  That was a different issue and was previously resolved.

Recap: For anyone following this post and related posts, there is a reported issue with locating all programming content using the B button to search content.  I was able to collect data, including geographic areas, ODN versions and STB model numbers.  This issue was escalated internally to the guide team and they determined the STB’s and search functions were working “as intended”.   However, there were community members that still reported missing content.

Diving a little deeper, I discovered that there are more than one search program assigned to different STB's  and the type of search program you have depends on the STB.  There is standard search, where the B Button is basically a shortcut to the On Demand search where most results are from the On Demand Library.  In this search, not all programming is captured.  Then there is Advanced Search, which allows you to search all content available.  Search parameters include searching by title, genre or actors.  Advanced Search is only available on select STB’s, including:

    • Samsung 3090, 3260, 3270
    • Arris (Motorla) DCS3400, DCS3510
    • Cisco 4640, 8640

One of our test STB’s is a CISCO 8640, which has Advanced Search and is why we did not see the issue.  Of the Forum’s members that reported an issue and provided STB information, none had a device compatible or enabled with Advanced Search.

To illustrate the point further, if you have a device without Advance Search and are looking for the program “Perry Mason”, you will see results for OnDemand programming which includes “Tyler Perry” and “Katy Perry”,  but not "Perry Mason".  If you search by the lead actor, “Raymond Burr”, you will get OnDemand content that features Raymond Burr, but not the series “Perry Mason”.   If you have one of the STB’s with Advanced Search, your results for “Perry Mason” or “Raymond Burr” will include the program “Perry Mason”, as well as the OnDemand content.

There are two ways to resolve this issue:

    1. Exchange your device that is not Advance Search compatible with an STB that is Advanced Search capable (from the devices listed above).
    2. You can also search all content, regardless of STB, by going to watch.spectrum.net and logging in with your account credentials. Ensure that your STB/DVR is recognized, then you can manage the STB/DVR from the website.

I prefer the second option because you do not lose saved programs or settings on the STB/DVR and I find the website easier to navigate with a keyboard compared to navigating search with the remote control.  Once you select a program from the website, you can choose to “record series”.  Then, once the recorded series is recognized by the STB, you will see the program on your STB when you select “list” and can now manage the program using the remote control.   Note that once the STB/DVR is recognized with your credentials, you can manage your DVR from any connection.  You do not need to be on your home network.  The website search works with either search program and all STB/DVR's.

Hope this answers your questions.  Feel free to let us know if there are additional questions and we will respond as quickly as possible.

    • Cisco 4640, 8640, and Cisco 9865 (6 tuner DVR.)  ( Satch=I have the ODN Cisco 9865 with Advanced Search)

One of our test STB’s is a CISCO 8640, which has Advanced Search and is why we did not see the issue. " Of the Forum’s members that reported an issue and provided STB information, none had a device compatible or enabled wit

    h Advanced Search. "

Satch says (regarding Jame's quote above: "This is not true in my case, as I reported the missing ODN B-button keyboard search data, and my box is the Cisco 9865, and has Advanced Search."  Brookfield, Wisconsin, 53045)

     Update:

My Cisco 9865, a six-tuner DVR, has Advanced Search here in Brookfield, Wisconsin and has had the same issues that others have reported since last month.

The only MDN/ODN Navigator boxes to my knowledge, that do not have Advanced Search are all SA model HD (MDN), and SA-C (ODN) model boxes.   The legacy SA model boxes, that have limited title search on their keyboards, are the SA 8240 HD/HDC  series models and the SA-8300/SA-8300HDC.  These MDN and ODN boxes have basic Title Search keyboards only.  Cisco bought out SA, so if you have a Cisco box, it has advanced search  All ODN Navigator boxes that are Cisco/Technicolor, Arris or Samsung have Advanced Keyboard Search.

My Cisco 9865 DVR is working great, with the sole exception of the advanced keyboard B-button search problems described above,  I have no intentions of swapping it out, because I don't want a World Box (No Clock), a reduction in tuners from 6 to 4 on World Box, and the possibility of getting Spectrum Guide on the box, which is still loaded with bugs, and doesn't have Caller ID on TV ready yet, for which my family, depends on that feature.

It sounds like the guide team needs to find a Cisco 9865 to test with ODN B-button advanced  keyboard search.  Search for some of the catagories listed above in a division having problems with the Advanced Search.  And don't forget, the Arris 3600-M boxes are also six tuners, and there have been reports that they also have about 75% of ODN Advanced Keyboard Search data missing as well. Please review @Chaswmsday box type in this regard.  His report is eariler in this thread.  He reports having an Arris DCX3600M  with the same missing keyboard B-button search data problems as my Cisco 9865.

Where do you find your STB ID number?   I have searched in settings and online, but I just get "Cisco DVR".    Please don't tell me I have to read the tiny black on black lettering on the back of the STB.   Man Sad

Can you take your exixting STB back to your local Spectrum store and request a specific box?  How would this work as  I don't think you can call them directly?

    @Satch

How do you use a STB with that many tuners?    How did you request it, do you have to pay more?

On your RC with cable box on, go to its menu's settings and look for diagnostics.

    Some questions answered:

1.) Box ID number-In ODN Navigator, there is a setting in Settings called "ABOUT" and if you go to it, it will give you the ID for your box.  Don't post the MACC Address publicly though, because this links to sensitive info on your account.  There's also an ID identifier in "My Account" (My Services.)  You can click on that to get your box ID.

2.) The B-button search issue is NOT a box problem.  It is a Guide/Spectrum/Gracenote problem affecting several users, so taking it back for that is not recommended.  Spectrum needs to fix this for individual customers affected by this.  Spectrun provided a fix tested in the labs, and rolled out to the main areas that our guys moderate,  (At least that is what I believe.)  But there are still several customers in some very different markets that remain having this problem with ODN Advanced Search across markets.  This means one of two things:

a.) The updated fix, which can ONLY be provided by Spectrum through their overnight or automatic update pushes has not yet hit those affected markets or boxes in those markets that need the update.

    OR

b.) Spectrum is still investigating the cause of why this missing B-button ODN 75% advanced search missing data for keyboard entry is still a problem.  Remember, they can't push out a fix until they know what caused this issue in the first place.

OT- With questions answered. The six tuner boxes are rare.  This just means that you can record up to six shows at once.  My tech came out to do a complete rewiring of our cable last year, because we had a 30-year old cable line that died.  He told me that the techs are only allowed at least in my area, Metro Milwaukee Wisconsin, to have no more than two six tuner boxes on the truck at one time.  He actually had to text another tech to go get a six tuner box.  I was having an issue with my previous Cisco 9865 because there was one channel that was not activating even after the tech replaced the wiring.  Oh yea, and the Arris box that another tech gave me after the updated wiring Arris DCX-3600M would not stop rebooting every four hours.

I said, "I don't want to go back to two tuners."  And I didn't want to take a World Box yet, because it has no clock.  Didn't want to chance getting Spectrum Guide on it."  So I got another six-tuner Cisco 9865.

Lastly, you have no control over what the store has in stock.  The World Boxes have four tuners and IF you get an ODN Navigator Guide and can live without a clock, they are good.  If you get a World Box with Spectrum Guide, you might have some problems because like all new technology there are bugs that need to be fixed.

    Update,

I want to thank James and his staff for all the data collection efforts on this topic and the effected divisions and boxes that have lost now up to 90% of ODN Advanced Search keyboard functionality on the respective Cisco 9865, Arris 3510-M , and Arris 3600-M, as well as any other ODN Navigator box makes and model saffected by this. (MDN/ODN SA-Model boxes do not have Advanced Search.  These models do not apply.)

We may need to hear back from the specific local division areas were ODN B-button advanced search has the missing data.  We have different divisions in Wisconsin, California, and Ohio with these issues on the above boxes.

The next step is to collectively share the advanced search keyboard on ODN's missing data to test how the missing data is the same, or different on each ODN box for the areas having problems.

My view is that there are far more similarities of ODN Advanced Search Keyboard missing data than there are differences from box to box.  This means that in respective Wisconsin, Ohio ,and, California,  divisions, on the boxes mentioned above, the following conditions are true.:

ODN Advanced b-button search keyboard data may now be missing close to 90% of its data.  (Before it was 75%.)  Local divisions affected by this, need to get those resolved.

Searching for Actors/Actresses ONLY shows their names IF the program (Movie or Series) is in the database.  For example, a search for Al Pachino, brings up his movies because the ODN keyboard search is able to find them.

A search for the actor Eddie Albert does not bring up his show Green Acres because his show is missing from the keyboard search system.

However, finding the show Green Acres by hunting and pecking through the Time Grid does show the show, the airtimes and cover art.

90% of B-button searches from the ODN Time Grid return nothing, or "Please Wait" and than nothing.

Sports are listed as Series.  And often link to old On Demand Programing.  Sports are not listed as Sports like they should be listed.  NFL Football picks up no live games.  All news programing from many channels on a B-button search is gone.  Sub channels like ME TV-Laff, Anenna TV, Cozi Comet, show no B-button search programing.  Can't find NHL Hockey live, live Boxing, Cooking Channel.  The list goes on and on and on with missing ODN Advanced Search keyboard missing data.

The worst cases that are NOT showing up in the  B-button ODN keyboard searches are the following:

    • Live Sports Shows missing.
    • No live news shows.
    • No Sub-channels.
    • No older syndicated series from 1950's-2000's.
    • No specialty shows.
    • No Sports Team catagories..
    • Actors ONLY if their movie or TV series is ALSO picked up by the keybard.
    • Genre searches are suposed to pick up EVERYTHING in a ODN-Keyboard search catagory.  For over six weeks, not even close.
    • Movies will show in the keyboard search only if the station is also included in the search.  If a station is missing, let's say for example Laff or Comet TV, subs will not pick up any movies on that station through advanced keyboard search.

    Question,

What kind of investigations are happening  in our markets, (Wisconsin, California, and Ohio?)_ on the Cisco 9865, Arris 3510-M, and Arris 3600 in relation to the B-button advanced keyboard search missing data?  What communication is being done in these markets to work on fixing this problem?  (Are the divisions working together to solve this issue?)

Everything was fine up until Mid October when all of this happened with the B-button keyboard such on the above mentioned boxes.  Please communicate with our above markets in Wisconsin, Ohio, and California and also refer to them my bulleted list of problems above.  And do checks relating to the missing searches on the following boxes in those markets relating to the Advanced Search B-button functionality:

Using my bulleted list as a guide, B-button search on any Cisco 9865, or Arris 3510M or Arris 3600M for the following show examples in any of these affected divisions: (Ohio, Wisconsin, California that runs ODN Navigator.)  I can provide some examples to help:

    • Live Sports Shows missing. (B-button Search "Green Bay Packers")  Search for any Sports Teams.  They are gone.
    • No live news shows. (B button search any Fox News Channel or Fox Business New Programs. in the Time Grid cells, a very few number of shows come up as a series, but that is all.)
    • No Sub-channels. ( No Antenna TV, no Me TV, no Cozi TV, No Laff)  No programing on any of those channels either.)
    • No older syndicated series from 1950's-2000's. (B-button search for Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons, The Brady Bunch)
    • No specialty shows.  (Most Game Shows on GSN are missing from B-button search.)
    • No Sports Team categories.. (Already covered above, but it seems that no live games are showing up in search results.)
    • Actors ONLY if their movie or TV series is ALSO picked up by the keyboard.
    • Genre searches are supposed to pick up EVERYTHING in a ODN-Keyboard search category.  For over six weeks, not even close.
    • Movies will show in the keyboard search only if the station is also included in the search.  If a station is missing, let's say for example Laff or Comet TV, subs will not pick up any movies on that station through advanced keyboard search.

Please forward this information to the affected Wisconsin, California, and Ohio markets.  Maybe some of the examples we have provided will help the guide team in those markets work to resolve this problem.

Remember that only ODN with Advanced Keyboard search is affected, and only in certain boxes and markets.  Hopefully a software update, with all the missing shows back in the missing ODN Advanced Search keyboard database is forthcoming.

Please try using watch.spectrum.net to manage your Set Top Box.  Using the website to search for programming on your equipment, you should find accomplishes every item on the bullet list.  This is one of the two options I previously posted that resolves this question.  Otherwise, the search function is working as intended in all areas and Advanced Search is only available on select equipment at this time.  If new information becomes available in the future regarding this topic, I will post an update.

    Hi James,

If the advanced search is working "in all areas as intended"  why don't Ant, 13, and myself have it on our qualifying boxes?  We were able to search for titles, movies, genres, sports, and actors on our Cisco 9865, Arris 3510-M, and Arris 3600-M up until mid October.  on the ODN-Advanced Search keyboard We HAD Advanced Search for years on those boxes, and now, for whatever reason it has been taken away.  Something is still not right here.  Why did we lose the functionality that we had?

I guess we are just going to have to live with this and use the website until something changes.   Very dissapointed that this feature is not offered for us anymore.

Bob from wisconsin here.  I have spectrum model 201 dvr and i have had same problem for last couple months. Many older shows and movies dont show on search button like they use to. So if a show is advertised but does not show on search ,I have to go to den ,turn on computer, and search. Very inconvenient and a step backward in funtionality. I hope they return to old advanced search soon.

    Hi Bob,

Yes, we all have the qualifying boxes for the advanced search ODN Keyboard.  The site that James provides DOES have the missing search data, but I would not call this a solution, I would call that a workaround.  On my Cisco 9865 I have the option to search for the following shows:

    • TV Shows
    • Movies
    • Sports
    • Events
    • Genres
    • Actors

These options are in a long white strip on the search box when the B-button is pressed.  My keyboard search results look like the one below: (This is what an advanced search ODN keyboard looks like on my box: )

    Navigator Search.jpg

I also have Cover Art For Movies and Shows that looks like this:

    ODN Cover Art On Demand.jpg

And here is a picture of my Remote DVR Manager on my box:

    Remote DVR Manager.jpg

I should have advanced seach functionality based on the screenshots above.  (My Cisco 9865 six-tuner DVR qualifies, as do all the other makes and models of DVR mentioned in this thread report.)

The boxes that none of us have that DO NOT have Advancred Search lool like the screenshots  below.  They are on the SA/ SAC 8240/8240 C /8300/8300HDC  with a Title Search only keyboard that looks like this:

    Title Search Only Navigator Keyboard.jpg

That above (and below) graphic is from an old SA-series box that I have not had for at least six years.  It is a legacy version of Navigator that has a Cataory Search that looks like this:

    Old Navigator Cataorgy Search.jpg

These last two screenshots do not have advanced keyboard search functionality because the SA-model boxes don't have that.  They also don't have cover art graphics, or the expanded Remote DVR Manager Screen.

All of our boxes are represented by the first three graphics only in this post and have the advanced search, show cover art, and DVR Manager with folder customization options.

I wanted to show these graphic examples on our boxes to state that those first three screenshots are a part of our boxes and that we have advanced search.  It should be picking up the categories selected with the B-button and 75%-90% of the time, does not.  I hope this helps!

OK, it is my turn since I finally found something that is not showing up in my searches (RC's B button).

Arris DCX3510M DVR with its ODN UI 18.52 software version (is that guide version too?).
Searching for Golden Globe Awards on KNBC (4 in LA, CA) for Sunday, 1/6/2019, but it failed to find any. I did find it in DVR's Guide manually though.
See my uploaded SD screen captures below:

    DiagsSummary.jpgSearchGlobe.jpgSearchGoldenG.jpgGuide.jpg

I'll post more when I find something else not showing up in my searches. I agree with Satch that the workaround sucks. This really needs to be fixed. There's no excuse. I bet other users are annoyed too who don't come to the forums.

Update: There is confusion on this issue.  James mentions that the search "Works as intended in all areas."  But this can't be so, because several of us are having problems with our advanced keyboard search results in Wisconsin, California and Ohio. On Cisco 9865, Arris 3510-M, Arris 3600M and the T-201 (Humax, I think.)

The picture evidence above shows that we have the qualifying boxes with advanced search.  The big pictures representing our advanced boxes and the smaller pictures representing the boxes that we don't have that don't have advanced search.

Did anyone in Wisconsin, Ohio, or California report this b-button advanced search issue and what was the response?  Users in these isolated areas, please feel free to try the advanced search, using my bulleted search items above and examples, on your own qualifying boxes and post the results.  Thanks!

It is unfortunate that our mod team testers are seeing no problems, but we still have them in isolated areas.

I have the same problem with multiple shows and channels on my guide.  The pictures show that we all have boxes capable of the advanced search system.  We could find our TV Shows, Movies, Sports, Genre's, and Actors on our boxes until about mid October 2018 with no problems.  But now, almost 90% of B-button searches lead to nothing.  For reference, our guide version is ODN 8.1.0_14.

There are too many missing B-button searches to even begin to list.  The worst case scenarios are the loss of live Football Games on the B-button search during Football season.  Here are some channels that when shows are  selected in a Time Grid cell, using the  B-button, search bring up nothing:

    • Antenna TV
    • ME TV
    • Cozi TV
    • Laff
    • Fox News
    • Fox Business

Probably close to 100 channels that are like this.  Additionally in B-button search the following problems also remain:

    • Sports Teams are not searchable.
    • Sports is no longer listed as a Genre.
    • Specialty shows and events are missing.
    • Tons of live sports are missing in B-button search.

All we can get in VERY, VERY ISOLATED instances on a B-button search is occasionally some programs listed as a series, and some actors.  And maybe about 30% of the movie data that we used to have on our boxes prior to mid October 2018.  Up until about Mid-October, 2018 the B-button search was picking up everything correctly.

Meh... B search glitch asside,  I am happy with my new Cisco DVR cable box.    Compared to my old box, the remote buttons work easily ten times  faster and the screen no longer freezes multiple times per day with commands. .  DVR capcity has increased 10 fold.  Reboot time is halved.   I am not going back to my old box because of this issue.

Yes it is very annoying to watch a NFL game and not be able to  press one button to see what other NFL games are going to be on, but face it fellas, if only three people out of millions complain, it is not going to be a priority.

    I agree,

The Cisco is a great box.  The six-tuner units from Cisco and Arris are really rare now, so it is best to hold onto them.  Don't trade your box for a hosed B-button keyboard search.  I am sure that this will get worked out in time.  The engineers may have to write new update code and push that out to the divisions and boxes with the B-button search issue and that may take additional time, because the testing shows that some boxes have problems with the B-button search in some divisions and others do not.

I would still suggest to those following this thread,

Since we have the picture evidence of the qualifying advanced search boxes, post if anything does change and this gets fixed in your area.  Keep in mind that this may not get fixed in all areas at the same time.

Levels of priority really can't be measured by this forum or other Spectrum Social Media Networks.  There are probably only about 2% of Spectrum's total customer base that know about this forum.  Others like Facebook and Twitter are probably higher, but not by much.

I agree about the level of priority.  The highest level of priority is being out of a Spectrum service completely.  However, box functionality should not be something that means nothing, especially when our keyboards with Advanced Search were working great up until mid October, and now they don't.

There is a lot of money involved in renting these converters, so I am hoping that Spectrum will at least go to Medium priority on the boxes and areas that lost Advanced B-button search in this report.  We can't get credits on this.  Although inconvenient, we do have the Spectrum TV website as a workaround until this gets fixed.

FYI. I couldn't find the live CFB National Championship in my manual searches with these keywords: CFP, Clemson, Alabama, etc. I had to go to an ESPNHD channel. Ugh!

    Thanks Ant,

This provides even MORE evidence of our our ODN B-button advanced search issues on our qualifying boxes.  We have members of our family with physical mobility problems and they can't search for their programs on our Advanced Search Cisco 9865 box, because of the problems demonstrated in different states and divisions on the proper boxes documented in this report.  Therefore, they have to move all the way to the back room in the other side of the house, to use our computer to get the information from Spectrum TV, or other applicable search sites.

Due to these medical limitations the search issues for them have become more of a frustration than I think Spectrum realizes.  The loss of any system functionality can vary a great deal in its importance from person to person and environment to environment.

We also depend on the box clock, so a World Box, which has no clock is not for us.  (Only four tuners, and don't want to get Spectrum Guide yet.  Too buggy in many markets, and does not have Caller ID on TV, working yet for which we depend on for this person.)  We don't want to go back to a two-tuner DVR, because we love the speed and functionality of this Cisco 9865 with the six tuners.  Six-tuner DVR's are now almost impossible to find

Happy with everything about Spectrum TV services, except for this now three month old search problem with the B-button keyboards on ODN Advanced System Gateway boxes.  Been involved with cable TV since 1985, and a TWC Customer since 1990, so I am very familiar with the boxes and the technology.

Yeah, I also have disabilities as well like speech and hearing impediments so I use online communications like the Internet, closed captionings (had to complain about those issues in the past with TWC and Spectrum that took forever due to its rarity and they finally reproduced the issue inhouse to fix which also took a while [they even told me to swap the DVR -- heck no!), etc. I sent messages to Spectrum's Facebook, Twitter, and past Charter contacts about this issue with this forum thread and https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32180839-CATV-ODN-Navigator-Guide-Keyboard-Search-Missing-a-Ton-of-Data links.   I hope this old annoying still not fixed issue get escalated to be researched deeper and fixed. We really do need more people to report this issue too.

A Spectrum care person e-mailed me to get examples of missing search results that we are having at home that are not related to special or live events. The reason for this that the series that should be around to use as an example and not worry about it going away in a few days. Can you guys please provide a few examples of missing search results you are having? I already have provided ABC's new comedy series, Schooled, that start tonight that is still not showing up in my searches.
