Was working, now getting sending error.

Posts: 5 Spectator

My email was working just fine up until a few weeks ago. Since the start of May, every time I try to send from my primary outfacing account, I get an error:

The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: impout006.msg.chrl.nc.charter.net cmsmtp 68.45.76.14 blocked. Please see https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/understanding-email-error-codes for more information. AUP#Out-1130.

I am using Mozilla SeaMonkey version 2.53.20. I am getting the error on all of my Charter email accounts. I am currently using xFinity internet, since Spectrum is not in my area, but my mother still has her account, which all the email accounts were created under. I am uncertain of what changed between April and May.

    Adding additional information, after doing some searching, it appears that the problem might be on the Spectrum side blocking their SMTP outgoing mail server. I can still use the mobile.charter.net on my phone. Everything else I have found while searching says this is a server side error that needs to be corrected by Spectrum.

    Hello @PMSchulz;

    Welcome to the Community Forums. I would recommend you check the settings of the email program to see if you have the correct information. You can visit the following site for the information on the email settings: https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/mobile-email-setup I would also recommend trying to see if our webmail is working. You can check your email on webmail by visiting www.spectrum.net.

    I can access via webmail. However, that is not ideal. When I check the server settings on the webpage, it only lists the IMAP settings, not the SMTP settings. Since I archive my email on my own computer, so as to not hit my storage limit, using IMAP is not the preferred method.

    If I am understanding you correctly, the ports I have should work, but there is no reverse DNS. I am set to the correct POP and SMTP servers. Receiving email is not an issue, it downloads just fine. My current outgoing server is smtp.charter.net, port 465, which as I said was working fine up until about mid last week. I have not touched any settings ever since I moved down here 10 years ago.

    Wrong. I told you why you're getting AUP fault code #1130 and suggested what to use for "POP"/POP3 if that's your bag which, by the way, i entirely respect. Otherwise you go according to the guidance.

    Bottom line:

    1. you contact Comcast/Xfinity and let them know about the reverse DNS pointer record problem and rest assured that it'll pass in the by and by even if you don't but who knows in how much longer if you don't
    2. use mobile.charter.net for both incoming and outgoing server hostname
    3. use IMAP & port 993 or else POP3 & port 995 for incoming
    4. use SMTP & port 587 for outgoing…

    … and you take that to the bank and you don't wait until something else melts down.

    Okay, I changed to mobile.charter.net for both incoming and outgoing. I changed to Port 587 for the outgoing, and still getting the same error message. I have input a contact to Comcast and have not heard anything, but since the only option was to go to their message boards….

    My compliments to you for the update!

    P.S.: I take back my assertion that the problem with your byzantine IP address would pass in the by and by even if you didn't contact the byzantines about it and am thus relieved to find out that you have done so!! ☘️
