Spam email frustration!

The amount of spam and junk email that I get in my old mi.rr.com account is ridiculous! With the number of businesses and individuals that need to know my email address, changing to a more modern and robust email account is not really an option.

Since built-in spam filtering on this old roadrunner account is very minimal, I have been working on creating my own filters on the webmail page. Combinations of subject word flags and country of origin tags (like .ru) were doing a pretty good job, and were catching about 15 junk emails a day. But today I see that all of my filters have been removed! There is apparently a limit to the number of filters that can be built, and rather than just telling me that I have reached my limit, the system just deleted all of them! VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

    Hi Paul, Welcome!

There's a general guideline about a lot of technologies. You can, if you play your cards right, get security updates on tech services and hardware for about 10 years. Once you get into the 15-20 years plus range, the problem is that legacy services by that time can no longer handle modern security threats, The hardware is too old, the software is too old, the servers on which those legacy platforms were built upon were great for their time. However, as they age and you get into that 15 year+ age range, companies no longer want to invest in these older platforms.

Roadrunner is/was a platform devised over twenty years ago by the old TWC regime. For several years, Spectrum kept it as a courtesy platform because like you said, there are so many businesses that relied on it for long periods of time. But the core foundation of Spectrum is CATV/Streaming, Internet, Mobile, and Landline technology. It's no longer email. The spam filters are so out-dated that it's like they no longer exist, as your own personal experience can attest to that.

You have two options to reduce spam. Get a web-based email with a strong ad-blocker and tracking protection. I recommend Ghostery for ad-blocking and tracking protection. The Brave Browser has the best priacy ad-blocking and tracking protection built in, You don't need an ad-blocker with the Brave Browser,I have Ghostery on my Firefox browser and use Brave, and I have a Yahoo Mail account and another user has a G-mail account and the spam is much less, You will either need the Brave browser or an ad-blocker to stop email ads and help block webmail ads,

You might also want to look at Thunderbird for better email security. Roadrunner is just too old to stop modern threats and spam. Here's a link to Thunderbird. You need something more modern for better spam protection:
