Email password change - do we also change the email address we give out?
Email password change:
Do we also change the email address we give out? I’m currently. name@nycap .rr.com. Am I supposed to change my email address to name@spectrum .net. or. mail.charter.net? I don’t see it in the directions. It seems to me that name@nycap .rr.com will no longer work.
I’m asking about using Spectrum with my Thunderbird email client on my desktop.
Do I have to change the following:
- password
- configurations of the portal, etc
- and the email address I give out to others
Is that correct?

@ferra,
No, your email address would not be changing. Access will no longer be available via webmail, but each email address will be attached to it's own Spectrum ID, which is used to log into spectrum.net and check email from there. If a password change was needed, this would be done at spectrum.net for the user ID on the account matching the email address, this would update both the email and Spectrum ID password in one step as they need to match. Once you change the password at spectrum.net for that email account, you would need to update the password with any third party mail client you use.1

Thank you for the response, Mo-5. I want to be sure I understand. With my 3rd party email client on my desktop (Thunderbird on an iMac), I can still use name@nycap.rr.com, and I have to update the password. I do not have to change my email address to name@spectrum.net or name@mail.charter.net.
Is the above correct? I see other people saying they have to give out a new email address.
Also, are you saying we will no longer be able to access our email via a browser at spectrum.net? I currently access webmail using webmail.spectrum.net/index.php/mail/auth
Will that no longer work? Can I access webmail (after the password change) at spectrum.net with a browser?0 -
@ferra,
Your email domain would remain the same, you'd enter the email domain the same as it has been using whatever existing domain was in use, such as nycap.rr.com that you mentioned.
For the second part, that wasn't quite correct. You WILL be able to access email via spectrum.net on any browser using the "Check Email" option once you've logged into spectrum.net with the email account you want to access. You may need to click the "More" option first if it's not on the left margin for PC browsers, or the lower menu on mobile. The webmail.spectrum.net site will soon no longer be available, so using the check email option via logging in at spectrum.net will be the only way to access the email via web. The webmail site should start redirecting you beginning tomorrow if you still attempt login there.1
