Why doesn't app retain my preferences?

The app won't keep my settings for guide sorting and filtering, and startup channel. Most of the time I turn it on, it reverts back to the defaults. I want the guide sorted by channel number and filtered by favorites. I also don't want Spectrum News as my startup channel. I'm running the current version (2.85) on an Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) running tvOS 17.4. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app and restarting the ATV. It works for a short time, then reverts back. Why is it doing that? For what Spectrum charges for their service, it should work better.
