Xumo continues to be a extremely poor performing option

I just tried to watch the European soccer championship. Xumo kept halting with the blinking dots. This happened at least five times. Two times an informational message came on and said unable to complete request. This box was rebooted two days ago so don't say that is an option to fix the issue. It is not.

As soon as my free time with this box is over I'm giving up and going with something else. I can't believe in this day and time Spectrum cannot provide a similar experience and features of their old cable boxes.

Good evening @MLeeCumberland and Welcome to our Community Forums

Thank you for reaching out to us about our Xumo box not working as intended. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this must be causing you. I appreciate you resetting the box. That is generally the first step in troubleshooting. By chance have you attempted to reset the internet equipment? This can be done by unplugging the cable line, power line, and removing the battery backup if you have one for both the modem and the router for a solid 3-5 minutes. Are you able to try this and let us know? -Lyn

@MLeeCumberland I assure you, I have seen every issue you have seen with digital services (TV and cloud DVR), either with Xumo or Roku. However, in all seriousness, make sure your hard cables are pushed in or screwed tight. Do a full power cycle on your router. I have never seen that requires 5 minutes (but I suppose my old cable box sometimes needed multiple minutes to properly reset, so it's not impossible that your router needs five minutes). Then finally, reboot your streaming box. After all that, some individual programs can be problematic at certain times. 😞

Over the last few weeks I've had to unplug both the power and the cable connection in my house for remodeling/painting. In doing so it has been off for extended periods and all the cables have been reattached. I continue to experience poor performance. In some cases I know it is the internet connection as my laptop drops, but other times I get messages stating "Channel not available" on the spectrum app, or in the middle of a program Netflix just quits and goes back the Xumo home page while my laptop continued to function. I'm not asking for 100% uptime availability, I know there are extenuating circumstances that cause interruption, but when I see random drops, freezing, etc., and I no longer have functions I used to have like pausing live programming I feel like I'm beta testing somebody's software. I spent 40+ years in IT, so I believe I have a decent grasp on the technical challenges. I also know I would have had some very uncomfortable conversations with my mgmt. if my performance had matched Spectrum and Xumo's.

    My recommendations:

    1.) Follow Gary's instructions above.

2.) Still have problems, get a service tech out to check your signals and drop line.

3.) Still have problems after that, swap out the XUMO for a traditional DVR box. They seem more reliable, and are easier to navigate.
