Repeated Reset of Cable Modem Causes it to Bounce between "App" & "A it" but no picture & no numbers

Repeated Reset of Cable Modem Causes it to Bounce between "App" & "A it but no picture & no numbers. Lack of picture first caused me to pull power source. Repeated by unscrewing coaxial cable. The automated Spectrum helper talks you through resetting, then presumes everything working! External DVD machine plays picture & audio without problem. No significant outages reported for my zip

    Hello @Seeker88

Welcome to our Community Forums! Sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with our cable box, I'm happy to help!

Has the cable box been moved from it's original location at all? Was the cable box saying App prior to you removing the coaxial cable?

    Thanks for your reply.

The cable box has not been moved from its original location in many months.

As I recall, the time of day was visible as usual on the box when I turned it on for the day. I then turned on the power for the TV. I then chose the cable modem input from the TV controls. It said no signal detected. When the cable modem input is selected now, it always says no input on that device. After each of the resets attempted (by my temporarily removing power or removing the axial cable), it never goes to the usual decreasing numbers as the reset ensues. Instead, just alternation of the words "App" and "A it." and no display of time of day. I have rechecked input device selection several times & I indeed had selected the correct cable modem input.

If the cable box still says App, it's likely not receiving a signal through the coaxial cable. Is there a splitter? Or does the coaxial cable come straight from the wall into the cable box? Can you check to make sure that the coaxial cable is properly seated to the cable box?

    Thanks again.

There is a splitter. The other devices (telephone & Internet) on the other part of the splitter are functioning normally.

I just now removed the TV modem cable from the splitter & then made sure it was tightly secured again. I also again removed the cable as it enters the cable TV modem, and firmly reattached. As before, the tv screen is black, and the cable box display only alternates the words "App" and "A it" instead of time of day (or with a series of numbers when reconnecting). Finally, I once again switched TV display to the DVD player & the DVD movie is showing on the TV screen.

After half a day, the cable modem spontaneously started the reset countdown without anything new being done. So thanks for trying earlier, and I guess I'm done since the picture is back.

On the splitter, it's not guaranteed, but it's possible the one side of the splitter is malfunctioning. For testing purposes since we know that line is working at least, can we bypass the splitter and plug the cable box directly into the coax at the wall and see if it works after a follow up reboot?
