No 5 channel (Dolby surround) sound from Spectrum App/Xumo

I am new to Spectrum App/Xumo. I am very shocked regarding not having 5 channel sound from Xumo and App. Come on Charter/Spectrum. This is 2025. When will you catch up to the times. This is standard! HELP us out here.

Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3) is available on VOD for the Spectrum TV App as of late 2024. Keep in mind that EAC3 is not supported when using optical cables. You'll still get audio played back through optical via downmixing, but you wont receive the full surround sound experience.

    VOD is Video on Demand.

And why would they NOT provide the standard 5channel through HDMI? This is standard throughout most of the industry. Just saying this is really pretty ridiculous that they can't provide this.

I watched The Last of Us season two last night in 5 channel through HDMI on the Spectrum TV App on my Xumo. Can you share some detailed steps to how you're coming to that conclusion that its not being provided?

Sure. i have Xumo connect to 2019 Sony 65 xbr 950G via hdmi cable. Connect Sony to Rotel Receiver using Optical cable. Have a Sony 400 disc bluray changer hooked same way, to hdmiHDMI on Sony. It passes Dolby Digital 5 channel and shows that on Rotel. Had a Uverse Box connected connected to Sony and it passed to Rotel, no problem. Also have a nVida Shield 2019 hooked the same way and using Netflix, it passes to Rotel perfectly. I use Netflix from the Sony Smart area and it passes fine. I tried Netflix from Xumo and do NOT get it passed. Same with Spectrum TV app, it does NOT pass it. I have called Xumo and the say it does not pass. I have walked the setting to make sure it (Xumo) is set up to do the passing. Did search from Spectrum support and it says it does not pass. Hope this answers your question. Thanks.

That certainly is peculiar, but very good info.

To be clear, "passing" vs "no passing" is indicated by a readout on the LCD screen for the Rotel saying Dolby Digital Plus or something similar? What does it say when its not passing - nothing or does it read out stereo/PCM?

Curious if the Xumo hardware misreports whats being passed though still produces DD+. Have a buddy with a fancy receiver like yours I'm going to try it out on with Xumo and Roku. If it shows some funny business like you're reporting, I'd think Spectrum has a bug to look into.
