High Split - What is it and when is our Network Evolution coming to you?

It means faster speeds!

Across our current 41 state service area, we're working to complete network evolution upgrades to enable symmetrical and multi-gig internet service speeds on our hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network through a process also known as high-split. Without going too far into the technical, we currently have a fixed set of radio frequency spectrum used to transmit data for video, internet and voice services. Traditionally, for internet service, most users consume more data than they put out so a higher percentage of those available frequencies have been dedicated to downstream traffic and a lower portion dedicated to upstream. To account for changes seen where a higher demand for upstream bandwidth as well as overall data usage has become more common, we're upgrading our entire network. With high-split, we're allocating more frequencies to upstream traffic as well as expanding the overall frequency spectrum available, increasing both upload and download bandwidth, or speed, in the process.

There's a lot of work to be done along the way, surveying network equipment and correcting any deficiencies in advance, upgrading hub equipment, obtaining and certifying new network equipment, architecture and configurations, as well as field deployment where millions of devices throughout your neighborhoods need to be replaced. This is the part that's the most noticeable to you as it does involve interrupting service while equipment is replaced in your local area. As much as possible, this is done overnight, but daytime work may also occur due to access issues and ensuring the safety of our technicians.

This project is split into multiple phases across the country, and a slightly different approach and outcome for each phase. For markets in the first phase, upgrades have been completed with up to 2x1 Gbps service already available. For the remainder of our service area, work is in progress to bring even faster speeds using Distributed Access Architecture (DAA), with all service areas currently estimated to be complete by the end of 2027. Certification for DAA is in progress and expected this year to proceed with upgrades in our remaining service area.

Below, we'll keep a running list of markets that have symmetrical and/or 2x1 Gig service enabled as well as cities that are due to have symmetrical service enabled within the next 6 months. If your city is not listed, or not near one of the completed markets, we do not have any additional information on specific or estimated timing to provide outside the overall estimate of 2027 completion that applies to our entire service area. If you need to clarify if your city is included within the listed markets and what service may be available to you, we're here to help.

*For the completed markets listed, these incorporate multiple cities within the general metro area we serve and aren't broken down individually to avoid being extensively long. Cities pending launch within 6 months are still individually listed. As cities in new markets are symmetrical enabled, they will be individually listed as well until their entire market is complete.
