Using Global Pay-per-use

Wife and I will be cruising in Europe for 14 days. Do I turn on 'Global Pay/Use" for the 14 days, and only get charged when used? I turn 'Roaming off' when on cruise ship, and turn it back on when in port and I want to receive data downloads and calls?

Thanks

    Hi @PDB -

Great question and the answer is very individualized, depending on where in Europe you are traveling and how you plan to use your phone. If you are using it for calling and data (maybe even navigation?), then you will want to adjust your plan. The Global Day pass gives you 24 hours of access for a set rate of $10 per day, per line and starts when an international call or data is started. However, depending on where you are traveling, you might be better off upgrading to Unlimited Plus, even if it just for the billing period you traveling. Unlimited Plus offers unlimited text, data and calls in 180+ countries outside the continental US and North America. If you are currently on standard unlimited, you can switch back once you return, and you will still enjoy Unlimited Plus through the end of your billing cycle. The Global Day pass for 14 days could add up quick at $10 per day, if used everyday.

Here is an example, if you spent 5 days in Ireland, then the Global Day Pass could cost $50, if you use calling or data everyday. With Unlimited Plus Plan, you pay $10 more per phone for the billing period and get unlimited talk, text and data (up to 10gigs) for the entire period. I included a link so you can check if the countries you are planning visit are included - I believe most in Europe are included. On the other hand, if you are planning on using WiFi on the ship, and use WiFi while sightseeing, reserving data or calling only if there is an emergency, then you may not need anything extra or just reserve the Global Day Pass in the event you need it. The $10 extra for Unlimited Plus does give peace of mind that it is available without tracking minutes or data used. Just be sure that you have International roaming enabled before you leave. It's a lot of information, hope it helps you make a decision that best suite your needs.
