remote does not control volume

I have an LG TV. The remote device does not control the sound volume nor does it shut off my LG TV. It only works to turn on my TV and change channels. How do I program my remote to control the sound volume and shut off the TV? I am connected via a Xumo box.

    To control volume, power or both, follow these steps:

    1. Select the Settings button (with your remote pointed towards your device.)
    2. Scroll down and select Remote Connected devices.
    3. Press OK/Select on remote.
    4. Scroll down and select Pair your remote to your TV and follow the on-screen instructions.
