same as everyone else. Change channels the app sits there then closes back to main apple screen. Open spectrum app again goes straight to channel 1 switch channels and closes again. Really starting to get upset about it. Tried different Apple TVs. Had tech come out. Replaced modem.

I have an Apple TV 4k 3rd Gen, Xumo and Roku. This particular issue with App freezing and closing which is ONLY happening on the Apple TV started on 4/1/25 when I upgraded the tvOS to18.4 and the Spectrum App to 3.20. Have been on the phone with Spectrum numerous times over this particular issue with no resolve still, which is very frustrating now that this is a month later and multiple Spectrum App updates later and I have no idea what they were supposed to fix because I see no improvements on the Spectrum App. Noticed there was another Spectrum App update on 4/29 to 3.22 hoping that would at least fix the freezing and closing issue but no luck. After the update the App froze and closed multiple times throughout the evening. I will say the only time I notice the freezing is when I change a channel and the information bar goes off the edge of the screen. When I change channels and no information bar shows up never have a freeze issue. My experience this freezing issue seems to be related to when the Information bar shows up. I don't like the Xumo, it is too slow and sluggish as well as my Roku which is why I spent $150 on the Apple TV. My wife is frustrated with Spectrum and wants me to start looking around for another service. But I keep delaying hoping Spectrum cared enough in fixing known issues in a timely manner to keep their costumers having a good experience. I'm getting tired of hearing, restart the modem, restart the device when they know that is not the issue! I also had a Tech come out and he replaced the modem to no prevail. The Tech even seen the Spectrum App freeze with the information bar going off the edge of the screen.
By the way this is to the person asking about the page at a time scroll in the guide. I purchased the Spectrum Apple Remote for $12 from Spectrum and I will say it is better than the Apple remote. It has a channel button that does page at a time when in the guide and allows you to change to the next channel when not in the guide.

Yesterday, I updated Spectrum app to 3.22, running Apple version 18.4.1. It looked promising at first. After some use on two separate apple 4K 2nd Gen w/ new smart TV's. I didn't find anything unusual until early this morning. Seems like, after you shut down over night, Apple TV is off for a good amount of hours. At start-up the Spectrum app hangs with the "usual" death "spinner." An Apple internal soft reset seems to resolve the spinner. Unlike before, 3.21 pulled power plug shutdown. Please work w/ Apple for a resolution. Once again, a cold start, and or overnight, the app, itself, seems to time out, goes-to-lunch, NG…
I have eliminated the possibility of H/W issues, 3 different Apple Tv's, remains an app issue. Please fix.
That said, 3.22 has cleared "some" of the detrimental issues. The crashing issue remains during play (that reverts back to menu) which is one of the inherited issues from 3.21. But now, after a crash. The app allows you to remote, navigate back to the previous channel w/out further issues. No death spinner or lock-ups. If you consider that a fix? not really. Just little less pain. Please have your team continue working the issues.
Getting a bit deeper, I purchased an upgrade. Apple tv 4K 3rd Gen 128GB just a few days ago. The new unit was running Apple 18.4.0 Spectrum app 3.21. I left it as is, at 18.4.0, w/ no updates. Stayed clear from 18.4.1… I was expecting something different but it was also crashing badly, app lock-up. Similar attributes of 18.4.1 but worse, if you could believe that… Luckily, I didn't have the window open.
To add to the software, now H/W issues. Apple 3rd Gen 128GB was experiencing poor picture quality, (DARK) picture. Checked all the picture quality settings, ok. I researched this dark screen issue. Seems to be somewhat common on Apple 3rd Gen. I do-not believe it to be a Spectrum issue. Nevertheless, I pushed a head. I exchanged my Gen 3 hoping for a model without any potential h/w issues. Possibly, an earlier working Apple version level. Bingo, my exchange had a normal screen (not dark) And a fully functional Apple version level 18.3.0 release date, 1/27/25. I updated the Spectrum app to 3.22 from 3.21. This cleared 75% of most Spectrum app issues.
Throughout yesterday, I could not break my 4K 3rd Gen running 3.22 / 18.3.0. It ran like a champ w/out crashes, hangs and or spinners. The 2nd Gen Apple (2nd TV 3.22/ 18.4.1) was also acting well, up until this morning. Both of my 2nd Gen experienced lock-up, Spectrum App issues, spinner from a cold start. Soft reset resolved it, all is well for now. I do expect the app spinner to have the same issue during a cold start, regardless of the Apple version. Including my new down version 18.3.0
The one remaining spinner issue is a Spectrum app problem, App's cold start, death spinner occurs. As in my write-up. My Samsung was able to resolve the death spin with a soft internal Apple restart but the lower level Samsung smart tv needed a hard reset, power pulled. Since, both tv's are running well. In my analysis, we can see how Apple / Spectrum apps interact depending the version level of your Apple TV.
Circling back to the Moderator, please have your team work hand in hand with Apple to resolve the remaining issues concerning 3.22 / 18.4.1
I'm presently running 18.3.0 with a death spinner during power on. I Just tested, 10 min Off / On period. Death spinner, I apple soft restarted to clear the spinner. After, it seems to run forever on 18.3.0. Unless you turn it off.
It's apparent, Spectrum 3.22 still has issues concerning hand shaking software w/18.x.x, playing app catch-up.
At this time, I Turned off all live Apple updates.
On the bright side, my new Apple 4K 3rd Gen 128GB is a couple steps above 2nd Gen. Beginning w/ Speed, running HDR10+ vs HDR10, finally! Movie HDR10+ labeled play only, lighting and or clarity HDR10 went from good to great + on a HDR10+ capable TV. It's a keeper!
Also- Apple has a beta version in the works 18.5 beta 4, view updates link. I'd advise to update one TV at a time for a few days w/out issues. That is if you have a second Apple tv or you can just wait it out until you see positive reviews.

I hope this helps outsiders and your team get a handle on a real conclusive app / version fix.
Thank you!

Update:
Apple just released the New version Apple 18.5. The new update seems to be stable across both Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen TV platforms. I could Not break either as I flipped through programming, apps and power cycles.
I also updated both Apple 4K TV's w/ the newly Spectrum app 3.22. Tested for over for 60 minutes w/out a death spinner or crash to menu issues. I powered on both Apple 4k's and both Samsung TV's on/off several times w/ long / and quick pauses in between power cycles. After multiple shut down / turn on w/out a death spinner, hurray!
I Flipped through programming / escaping / back button / channel info bar never froze / where it would frequently freeze-up before / and crash.
The 18.5 version update seems to have resolved the software bugs between Spectrum / Apple OS. They're playing nice once again. I believe everyone else will experience the same.
Thank you!

Update:
Just noticed after my update. The Spectrum app had also been updated (again) from 3.22 to 3.23 within Apple version (RC) release candidate.
This Spectrum update is part of the ATOS 18.5 version code. No need to update Spectrum after 18.5.
So far so good, completely stable…
Thank you!

Good morning All -
I wanted to provide an update and confirm that the app team did roll out an update on 5/14/25 that included a fix for the crash issue. After some post roll out testing, it appears that the fix has resolved the issue.
If you are still seeing an issue, and you have already updated the app, please let us know so we can investigate.
Thanks for your patience and for contributing to this thread. The information provided was extremely useful in the investigation. If you are seeing a different issue, please start a new post.

Update:
After several days of use concerning the new roll out of 18.5, I noticed from a cold start (overnight, daily use) the so called "spinner" remains. As before a ATV "restart" is needed to resolve. This issue remains constant on both ATV 2nd and 3rd Gen ATV's (running version18.5) during cold start-ups, both on separate TV sets. The crash issue (programming to menu crash) is one of the several issues that have been resolved. As mentioned above, death "spinner" remains as I've verified / experienced these past couple of days.
Also, concerning the dim screen issue which I've reported in past weeks. Related ONLY on my new ATV 3rd Gen. This continues to be an issue regardless of new rollout. In comparison to my ATV 2nd GEN which has NO display issues on either 4K 64/32GB. I have searched the web regarding this issue. The dim screen seems to have been reported for some time. I've swapped out / replaced my new 3rd Gen ATV several times but remains a dim display Vs ATV 2nd Gen which continues to be a vibrant display. Not sure if the Bionic A15 has an inherited GPU issue? From my research, the 4K 3rd Gen128GB issue had been reported by customers for well over a year now on various forums. What I've noticed, initial install the ATV seems to run fine for several hours but begins to dim as time passes. I've attempted everything to resolve the issue, full reset updates does not help. It remains dim. But when swapped out with a fresh new ATV 3rd Gen it begins fine then shortly after it goes to dim muddy screen. As mentioned, all display settings ECO all set to off. Once again, my older, ATV 4K 2nd Gen has had NO display issues for over 3 years. It's Not an internal settings problem.
If Apple does Not acknowledge this well known problem, I will likely return my new purchase, . As I've said, two of my older ATV 4K 2nd Gen are vibrant in imagery, HDR10 output perfect. My 4K 3rd Gen, spec wise / performance / great / but imagery HDR10+ display is mudded, poor depending on the scenery. My home theater display is a Samsung flagship 8K / Q950TS, all display settings (ATV, Samsung) triple checked, including cables all rated / tested beyond 8K. This is a well known 3rd Gen ATV 4K problem. Possibly the Bionic A15 GPU issue.
Thank you!

On my May 16th post, the issue had come back on all (4) ATV - 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen. I went a head and deleted the app, including data. I Re-installed app 3.23, all four of my ATV's are running fine now.
Earlier, the Spectrum 3.23 app ran for several days. This was after the Spectrum auto update but shortly after it began to act up, spinner. If anyone is experiencing this issue, just delete the app + data completely and reinstall it.
Fingers crossed, its running well now…
Thanks!

On 5/12 I updated the Spectrum update 3.23 and still had the app freeze and close. On 5/14 I installed the latest TVOS 18.5 update and the Spectrum App freezing and closing issue has gone away.
However, there is a new issue since I updated the Spectrum 3.23 app. If I am in the Spectrum App which I always am most of the time, when I turn off the ATV, the ATV turns back on in a few seconds. Had no idea what was causing it until I did some testing today. Thought it was HDMI CEC issues but it's not. If I close the Spectrum App before I turn off the ATV, the ATV stays off. But again, if I have the Spectrum App open and turn off the ATV, it turns back on. I have to remember to close the Spectrum App before I turn off the ATV for it to stay off. Somehow the Spectrum App is making the ATV turn itself back on.

TomH1234- I've seen most of all of these problems that you've experienced and or experiencing.
The ATV LED turning itself back on (after shut down) was a head scratcher. I attempted everything to fix the annoying issue. I had no choice but to pull the power plug at night or the ATV would remain on. From your description, what it amounts to is a corrupt IOS file during the update. You'll need to do a system RESET within Systems to clear the issue. The IOS update affected the code that turns ATV on/off. Noting to do with CEC as the TV remains off during this time. In other words, it's a bug in the programing update that happens every so often during major updates. The RESET will stop this issue from happening.
FYI- The ATV will reset all your settings and programming as if it was new. The IOS version will remain 18.5 including all app versions, Spectrum 3.23.
It worked for me…
Good luck!
