Why did I have to reboot my router after a service outage?
There was a total outage (TV, Voice and Internet) around 12:30am this morning lasting about an hour. TV was restored and the lights on my modem and router were blue and steady. This afternoon I tried to make a call - I have landline service. I had a dial tone, but after dialing the number, the line went dead. I tried some other numbers and just couldn't call out. I rebooted the router and it has fixed the problem. I wanted to know why, if the router light was on steady, why did it need to be re-booted? Could the outage have affected it?

Good afternoon,
For our voice service, the router would have no impact on this service as it's provided by the modem and doesn't go through the router at all. The service working again after rebooting the router would be coincidence. Reviewing the account alert history, I do see phone service was affected earlier for your area, but the issue was resolved fairly quickly.1

Thanks for the input, Mo_S. I didn't know the phone worked through the modem. I thought it did because after an outage, the router blinks until I pick up the phone receiver.
I'd like to know why I had a dial tone, but couldn't call out.

There was a concern with the phone services in your area for a short period of time that was most likely the cause for your phone not working. Just to confirm, has everything been restored for you? -Lyn
