connected to dns servers but not able to get to google.com

My modem shows I'm connected to the dns servers from spectrum. However, when I try to access community.spectrum.net website, web browser shows dns error.

I then connected through my vpn and able to get to this website and submit this report.

I did notice a notification about the outage in my area yesterday. However, I don't see that notification anymore when I log in to the spectrum app. I assume the outage is over.

What other troubleshooting have you tried? Have you rebooted the modem and devices and cleared the browsing history?

Yes, I rebooted the modem and my router and my pc. Still not able to connect to this site unless I use a vpn. Everytime the modem is rebooted, my router shows the dns I'm assigned to. I tried to ping these dns server or this site, no response.

    Hello @Kewlasu,

What browsers are you using? Can you try deleting Google.com cookies and than rebooting?

I'm using Edge and makes no difference on what websites I go to (google, microsoft, amazon, etc), it just returns a dns error message. Unless I connected through the vpn, I can't get to anywhere including this site.

FWIW, even my spectrum android app now can't even connect to my modem to see the status of the modem. Manual reboot of the modem didn't make a difference.

What happens if you connect directly into the modem (you will need to restart again if you are using your own router)?

I tried what you suggested. Connected my pc directly to the modem. Restarted my pc and it didn't recognize any internet connection from the modem (as I assumed it wouldn't assign an IP). No assigned IP for the pc from the modem of course.

fyi… I restarted (power off/on) everything this morning. My router, modem and pc. My pc is reconnected to the router. Everything came back as normal with internet connection. I'm able to get to this site and google and microsoft without using my vpn. Not sure what happened since I did what you suggested last night as I mentioned earlier. I also was able to see in the android app that it is able to connect to the modem again.

May have been a bad ARP cache entry.

Good rule of thumb is the old console cache clearing routine. Power everything down for about 10 minutes, then start at the wall and let each device fully boot one at a time until you get to the client devices
