Having issue with ping
Wondering why your servers decide to route my traffic to Atlanta, GA First even though trying to connect to a Dallas, TX Server? "EVEN THOUGH SPECTRUM HAS SERVERS IN TX, AND COULD IN THEORY KEEP IT ON THIER NETWORK UNTILL IT REACHES DALLAS?

Good morning -
Network traffic routing is automatic and follows the path of least resistance. Different factors can cause traffic to reroute, including network congestion. While the physical distance between Atlanta and Dallas is approximately 783 miles on an interstate and can take nearly 12 hours to travel by car, in terms of network routing, the difference is mere milliseconds (or fractions of a second) and the rerouting is not likely to cause any noticeable increased latency. I've included an independent link from Cisco that you may find helpful and explains this in greater detail. Understanding Network Traffic & Network Congestion: Metrics, Measurement, and Optimization.
If you are experiencing an issue with your service, please post a couple of traceroutes to the game server as well as to other websites/IPs like water.com and google.com. We can take a look and forward to our engineers if there appears to be an issue. In most cases, especially when gaming latency is involved, the latency is coming from the game servers themselves and not the route the signal takes to get to the server.
Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the traceroute. That shows you are reaching your destination in 40-50ms, which is an acceptable result and not something we can escalate to engineering.
