Hi-split/symmetrical speeds (Dallas, TX Area)

Just curious if anyone has experienced this or similar. Currently I use my own modem (DOCSIS 3.1), but got an email saying: "Our records indicate that you are using an Internet modem that is not Spectrum-owned. As a result, you may not be experiencing the full benefits of your Spectrum service. ….. Switching to a Spectrum modem will increase your upload speeds*."
There was a link to
but my account could not be found. I called and asked about getting a Spectrum owned modem and was told it would be something like $15 a month. I said I was just interested in just the Modem, not a Spectrum Router/WiFi. The Rep said yes there is a monthly fee for just the modem. When I login to my account and check it says "Free internet modem and no data caps" under my plan which is Internet Ultra. So I guess I'm wondering two things:
Is there an increase in the upload speed (Hi-split/symmetrical) in the Dallas area?
Also if Spectrum charges a fee for just the modem now?

Hello @TECH20, Welcome to our community page!
We appreciate your question and would be more than happy to assist. Unfortunately, customer owned modems are not currently eligible for symmetrical speeds. However, the modem is included with the service provided and there is no additional charge to that. The only increase would be if you were to subscribe to Wi-Fi, there is a $7.00 charge for the router and service. You can still utilize your own Wi-Fi router, but there is not a guarantee the router would receive the symmetrical speeds as they require a specific router. We are currently transitioning our services to high split on a market-by-market basis. At this time, Dallas is currently in the process. When it becomes available to you, you will be notified via your preferred communication method. I hope this help, but if you have any additional questions we are here for you 24/7.
