Why would a receiver just suddenly shut off?

It happened just after 8 pm last night. There wasn't a power failure - the TV was on, but just showed static. There was no display on the receiver. Fortunately, rebooting the receiver fixed the issue.

    Hello,

Sometimes there can be very quick power spikes or unexpected things on the main line for seconds that can disrupt power, When that happens though, within seconds at most the power comes back on, and the box would auto reboot. If the TV showed static, something might have happened, a power or line glitch in your area.

I wouldn't worry about it yet. But if this starts recurring in succession, a service call may be needed. About seven years ago, for about a week, we would lose all services (TV, Phone, and Internet) from about 7:25pm-9:00pm. We called each time and through research, Spectrum found that about 630 homes were affected by this. On like the Friday of that week it stayed on. and we got a one week credit of I think something like $30.00 Something in the node kept losing power around 7:25 for about five days.

First time, just a glitch, more than once, especially at the same time, call it and report it.

Thanks, Satch. I was looking online and one video suggested that the power save mode might have been turned on. I haven't changed anything to my knowledge.

I waited a few minutes, but the receiver didn't show any indication of re-booting, so I did it manually by unplugging it from the electric outlet.

I have another TV that is just operating on an OTA antenna. I tried a few channels on that and either it said "Channel Unavailable" or the picture was badly pixelating.

We did have snow and high winds last night. I'd like to think that was the problem.

    That's the culprit many times.
