Why does the 942 music channel switch to new 1 after 6 hours and 20 minutes? We have played 942 music channel for many years and just recently it has started switching. I have time this and tracked it for several day and it happens every time, several times a day.

Hello @johnknutti
Welcome to our community! When you say the channel switches do you mean that it switches to another type of music being played on the channel?

Thank you for the clarification,
It appears that the question should read "Why Does Music Choice Channel 942 switch to Spectrum News One (Channel 1) after 6 hours and 20 minutes?"
If this is the above question, I would ask, have you tested another Music Choice channel to see if the above result still occurs after that length of time?
Do you lose power to the cable or streaming box after the above time has elapsed?
Make sure that all cable box timers and auto power down settings are turned off.
Try a cold reboot of the cable/streaming box for several minutes, than let the same amount of time go by on channel 942, and see if the channel switching to channel 1 still occurs.
It is also possible that this channel may be a part of a technology called Switched Digital Video (or SDV.)
Switched Digital Video (SDV) is a technology that allows cable providers to distribute video content more efficiently. Instead of sending all available channels to every subscriber's home simultaneously, SDV only transmits the specific channel the viewer is currently watching. This method frees up bandwidth, enabling providers to add more channels or offer new services without requiring a significant increase in infrastructure
The channel may be going back to the default channel 1 (Spectrum News) because of a bandwidth saving issue if it is on SDV format. A similar behavior might occur after an extended period of time watching the same channel with a pop-up message, "Do you want to continue watching this channel." If you don't confirm "yes" with your remote, it goes back to the last channel viewed. If this is a SDV channel, there really is nothing that you can do about this circumstance until Spectrum increases the bandwidth in your area, such as the planned high-split conversion, which is an estimated two-three year migration period for all of Spectrum to increase internet speeds, data transfers, and allow for more channels on their entire network. You can read more details about the planned High Split Conversion here:
