Rookie questions about getting XUMO.

In order to watch 4k streaming shows, I’ll need a XUMO box.

I now have the Cisco 9865HDC-2 box. My WI-FI is from AT&T with the BMG530-900 gateway.

I have 2 tvs that support 4k and the HDMI cables and tv settings for 4k.

LG 43UM7300AUE 43” Samsung U8000F 43”

  • Multiple tvs can then use the same XUMO account. (True)
  • Recording is still possible using XUMO. (True)
  • Do I keep the Cisco 9865HDC-2 box with the connection for a certain time just in case I decide to return the XUMO box and stick with the cable connection?
  • Am I missing anything else?

Hello @Gort and thank you for reaching out in the Community Forums!

While it is true the Xumo will allow for improved definition of things, there are some things that may impede on use depending how you were planning on it. If you're using our cable service but you're using AT&T internet, the Xumo would not be able to fully access the cable package you subscribe to through the Spectrum TV app. The streaming service for us uses the internet from us as a means to "anchor", so to speak, the cable service to show that you're using the feature at the location of your subscription. Being that we cannot confirm that via another providers internet, the Spectrum TV channels would be limited.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I figured that my AT&T internet would not allow me to use XUMO. So I'll just have to do without 4k.

And I'm not about to give up Spectrum to find another TV service. I don't see anything out there that I trust like Spectrum.

It would be a big deal if every show, movie, etc. was 4k. In a way, it's no big deal not to have 4k under what I've got.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Gort!

To add my thoughts, With XUMO you are moving from a CATV experience to a STREAMING experience that is totally dependent on your Internet service, equipment, and signals, I have provided a pros and cons summation concerning the similarities and differences between XUMO streaming boxing and Cloud DVR'S and traditional cable TV boxes/DVR's Please review them carefully before decide on the transition to a XUMO box. @Gort

Where the general function of the Xumo would work just fine, it just wouldn't necessarily be a good replacement for our cable box in your situation. So other apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc would work, regardless of whose internet provider you have, just our TV app wouldn't work through AT&T's network.

So if you wanted to get the Xumo for things along those lines, or even if you want to try it out and see how you feel about it, go for it. But you're very welcome! The Forums are always here should you have any other questions!
