why when I search for a program, select it add closed captioning have to search for program again

I tried to change my closed captioning after searching for a program because it was unreadable; not only did the changes did not take or automatically went to something I chose to see what it looked like but then changed it again I was unable to change it after that. I tried to re-set closed captioning to defaults and then make changes; it didn't work; it just weirdly goes to some strange font I didn't choose with strange shadowing I didn't choose.

Also, several of the closed captioning choices had exactly the same thing: Text settings had color and transparency for the font, as did background settings that looked like the same thing; why on earth would you want to change the window color to red, green, etc.? The choices should be white, black, or none.

Window settings said EXACTLY THE SAME THING: color and transparency but the window settings NEVER changed for the "preview" no matter what you chose, It only changed if you changed it in background. So really WINDOW SETTINGS DON'T DO ANYTHING. They are SUPPOSED to change the PLACEMENT OF THE WINDOW. Why doesn't' it change the placement choice for closed captioning like it is supposed to? It is only at the bottom which consistently covers up any text they have in the program itself. It is very annoying.

Also, when I reset closed captioning to default it doesn't do it. How do I make it change to the new choices I make? Is it missing a "save choices" button?

To make it even more annoying, I was unable to do anything without having to re-search for the program each time when the font, color, and shadowing didn't change.

Please fix the choices for closed captioning; I am hard of hearing and get negative feedback if I turn the sound up from the rest of my family so the only alternative is closed captioning but that is useless if you can't read the words and can't change it to something you can read without covering up a large portion of the screen.
