War Dogs Access Denied 1147405308 — Spectrum-specific connection issue
I've been troubleshooting an Access Denied (1147405308) error in War Dogs for a while and finally narrowed down what appears to be a network-specific issue.
What I've established:
- War Dogs works normally when my PC is connected through my phone's cellular hotspot.
- The exact same PC, game installation, and account fail when connected through my Spectrum home internet.
- I completely reinstalled the game and verified the files.
- Windows, drivers, etc. are up to date.
- IPv6/IPv4 changes didn't resolve it.
- Spectrum Security Shield has been disabled.
- My Spectrum router is using Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1).
- Normal HTTPS connectivity works from my Spectrum connection.
I also checked the game's actual live network connection while it was running. The War Dogs process repeatedly attempts to establish:
52.30.202.16:443
On Spectrum:
Test-NetConnection 52.30.202.16 -Port 443
→ TcpTestSucceeded: False
On my phone hotspot, using the same PC and same destination:
Test-NetConnection 52.30.202.16 -Port 443
→ TcpTestSucceeded: True
So this doesn't appear to be a game installation, Windows, or account issue. The destination is reachable from the PC when the network is changed, but not through my Spectrum connection.
Spectrum support suggested port forwarding, but since this is an outbound TCP connection, port forwarding doesn't appear relevant. The phone support rep also said they don't really have the ability to investigate upstream routing/filtering issues.
Has anyone experienced something similar with Spectrum, particularly where a specific destination works over cellular but not over Spectrum? I'm wondering if this could be related to routing, filtering, or how my Spectrum public IP is being handled.
