Two Extraordinary Spectrum Employees — Customer Relations and Technician Jamal
I'd like to share an extraordinary customer service experience I had with two Spectrum employees on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in New York City.
I've been a Spectrum customer for years, and frankly, my recent experiences trying to resolve a problem with Sling TV had been maddening. I spent days dealing with technical problems, conflicting explanations, and the kind of corporate bureaucracy that makes you wonder whether anyone is actually listening.
Then, entirely by accident, I reached a woman in Customer Relations.
I wish I had gotten her name.
She took one look at what I was paying for internet service and was genuinely surprised. Rather than reading from a script or passing me along to somebody else, she took ownership of the situation. She arranged to reduce my internet bill from an impending $130 per month to $60 per month for two years, addressed the service interruption with a credit, and arranged for a technician to come to my apartment that very same day (it was a Saturday and the tech was at my home within 1/2 hour of the phone call!).
I cannot adequately express how much I appreciated her initiative, competence, and genuine concern.
And then there was Jamal, the technician who came to my apartment.
I'm a longtime software developer, and I've spent much of my life solving technical problems. What impressed me most about Jamal was his approach.
Rather than guessing endlessly at possible causes, he connected directly to the modem, bypassing the router, and established that Sling worked through that connection. It was a simple, intelligent debugging step that isolated the likely source of the problem.
He then tried replacement equipment until we had a working solution.
Jamal was patient, persistent, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in solving the problem. He didn't simply go through the motions. He cared whether it worked.
And when Sling finally came up successfully on every device in my apartment, we were both so happy that we literally did a little victory dance.
I'm not kidding.
In an era when customer service so often feels like a battle against scripts, automated systems, and people who are powerless to make decisions, these two employees reminded me what outstanding service actually looks like.
I sincerely hope Spectrum management sees this post and formally recognizes both employees. The Customer Relations representative and Jamal deserve to have their exceptional work brought to the attention of their supervisors.
Both helped me on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in New York City. I hope Spectrum can use the call and service records from that date to identify them.
These are the people Spectrum should be celebrating, retaining, and using as examples of how to treat customers.
They didn't just solve my problems. They completely changed how I felt about Spectrum in the space of one afternoon.
And I wanted people to know about it.
