Question about the New Router and Wifi 7 Extenders

my work laptop uses a VPN to connect to out networks, and periodically throughout the day, I am forced to reboot my Laptop due to systems no longer loading or responding to me. a reboot establishes everything back, and I continue to work until it happens again.

currently I have a Wifi 7 Booster sitting next to my laptop, and it is about 30 to 40 feet from the router.

mt my IT guy is telling me, either my router or my booster is alternating between 5Ghtz and 6 Ghtz, and flips back and forth about every 5 to 7 minutes or so, and that flip is causing my issues.

I am not losing connection to the wifi as a whole, and the VPN never drops - all other devices on the network, including doorbell cams never drop.

when I called, I got the standard it is your laptop message, and my IT guys says it is spectrum.

what I would like to know is if it is possible to set the device (router/booster) to use 5 or 6 statically, and not flip back and forth.

Hey @MMarston, welcome to our community! You can't disable switching between the bands. 5Ghz has better range than 6Ghz, it sounds like you are on the border between them. Part of the issue may be that the booster is right next to the laptop. I recommend moving the booster closer to the router, about halfway between the router and where you are trying to use the service. As you are working from home, I would highly recommend using an ethernet cable instead.
