Does a Spectrum Guide 110H need to be periodically turned off every now and then?

I have a new Spectrum Guide 110H receiver to replace my legacy Cisco box. When the technician installed it he recommended that I turn the power off for a few hours several times a month. I never had to do that with the Cisco, only reboot when there was a glitch. He didn't elaborate why this procedure was needed. Is it really?

I believe so. Since the box's siliconics rely upon ambient ventilation cooling without a forced-air cooling fan, i believe it's thus geared to receive potentially critical software updates only when it's in low-power standby ("off" while electrically powered) mode. In any case, a few hours "off" at least once per week sounds like astuteful advice for anybody prone to otherwise having the thing running full "on" around the clock all day, everyday.

Howdy @deedleann824. Any electronic device will need to be reboot occasionally, but there's no reason the 110H receiver would need to be rebooted more often than other models. In general it should be the first thing you try whenever you have a service issue, which you might need to do every month or two. Proactive reboots aren't strictly necessary, but could help reduce the chances of a problem happening while you are in the middle of watching something.
