Connecting modem directly to firewall device (router)

last year a customer (Andrew) asked this same question about installing a "Firewalla Purple" device directly to his Spectrum modem. Unfortunately his wording was overly specific, so he received an answer to a completely different question. The problem has nothing to do with configuring the Spectrum router in Bridge mode (not possible…understood) but IS about questioning why your modems automagically recognize all brands of wireless routers but will not seem to connect with a firewall router directly connected to your modem. please share your "secret handshake" (techie pun intended ;^)

The question you've cited was specifically about connecting a Firewalla Purple in between a modem and a wireless router which would be contrary to Firewalla's own guidance.

With a Purple or Gold in router mode, you uplink it to the modem and downlink it to a wireless access point or an Ethernet switch to which you would connect your wireless access point(s) and/or whatever else.

Spectrum's Advanced Home WiFi wireless routers feature their Security Shield safe-browsing software firewall and they don't do access point mode and i assume they need to be uplinked directly to the modem WAN Ethernet port.
