Hi there,

I'm getting major lag spikes consistently whilst gaming over the past month. Spectrum used to have great connectivity, however, unfortunately something has changed. I used to get 100ms ping, however, this has shifted to 200ms-400ms. Additionally, the past few days the ping spikes are every 30 seconds making gaming impossible.

I've ran a traceroute test and got the following:

On the final hop prior to the server I get ~64% packet loss. Is there a way to change how I am routed to this server? Or should I request a node split?

Thank you!

Good evening @sanjeevsolanki96 and Welcome to our Community Forums

Thank you for reaching out to us about the concerns you have noticed using our services. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this must be causing you. I will need to ask a few questions to determine the best course of action. Is this only happening while gaming or on more than one device? -Lyn

    Hi Lyn,

Thank you for reaching out and for the quick response!

Yes this issue is happening only while gaming, however, previously I've had no issues connecting to the gaming server at all.

I've tried connecting on 2 separate laptop devices and experience the same high-latency and lag spikes (see below for 2nd laptop results).

The gaming server I'm trying to connect to is located in Austin, Texas. Looking at the last hop "lag-16.dllstx976iw-bcr00.netops.charter.com" being located in Dallas, Texas (Charter Communications’ network infrastructure), this makes sense.

Hope you can help! Thank you!

    Hello @sanjeevsolanki96

Packet loss in a trace route is not usually accurate. Most devices that you pass through have technology that ignores pings which results in either no response or packet loss. This technology is used to prevent DDOS attacks from affecting it. I see the ping times in the results you provided is at normal levels. It is very possible that this is an issue with the game server you are connecting with. I would recommend you test the speeds with multiple servers to see if the problem occurs on other servers.

Security is especially tight with AWS too... but there are tools you can used to get a feel for things havebronlet them sit for a bit because of some processing overhead when the apps first kick off.
