Spectrum Smart Router Causing Printer Problems

We had an HP inkjet printer. It was working fine with my Mac, but my fiancé could not connect to it with her Samsung tablet. i.e "no printer found". Sometimes it would connect if rebooted the router but later the problem recurred. Similar issues with my iPhone and iPad. My fiancé insisted that we buy a new printer. The new Canon TS6420a had the same issue. I found an archived post suggesting the way the router handled 2.4GHz and 5GHz was the culprit.

I had an unused Linksys AC1900 WiFi extender, which I set up near the printer. Set up indicated that the AC1900 was too close to the router, but I wanted it near the printer to force the printer to connect via the AC1900. Problem solved.

Still I will probably but a new router and save on the rental fees.

Below it the archived post.

    Good morning and welcome @John_W,

I'm glad you found a way to get it working, but I did want to see if you had tried enabling Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) within the routers advanced settings. I did see it's currently disabled and may be worth a shot before purchasing a router.

There's some other settings there that may also be helpful in managing devices on the network.

Welcome!
