How, exactly to return equipment?

Spectrum Store Drop-Off
You can easily return your old equipment by bringing it to a Spectrum store location. Be sure to check in your equipment with a store representative so we have record of your return.
UPS Return
If there isn't a Spectrum store near you, equipment may be returned at The UPS Store locations. Advise The UPS Store center associate that you're returning Spectrum equipment, and they'll package and ship it to Spectrum at no cost to you. Remember to save your receipt for tracking purposes.
Use the UPS Store Locator tool to find the center nearest to you, and remember that not all UPS locations are The UPS Store locations.
The UPS Store locations are independently owned and operated by franchisees of The UPS Store, Inc. (although one or more may be company owned) in the USA and by its master licensee and its franchisees in Canada. Products, services, prices, and hours of operation may vary by location.
Home Shipment Return Kit
If you're unable to visit a UPS or Spectrum store, you can request a Home Shipment Return Kit by contacting us. When you request a Home Shipment Return Kit, you'll receive a cardboard box with a return label and bubble wrap.
Spectrum Apple TV or Spectrum Mobile devices are not eligible to be returned in a Home Shipment Kit. If you're returning Multi-AP WiFi PODs, request a specially-designed Multi-AP POD Return Kit.
Note: Spectrum customers in Hawaii have different instructions for returning their leased equipment.
Equipment Pickup
Customers with disabilities may be eligible to have their equipment picked up by a Spectrum technician. Please contact us for more info, or to request an equipment pickup.
Pickup is only available for customers with disabilities.
Unreturned Equipment Fees
If you fail to return all rented or leased equipment to Spectrum after you cancel or downgrade your services, an unreturned equipment fee may be charged to your account. This fee will be included in your total account balance.
Apple TV Returns
Your Apple TV device can be returned for a refund within 14 days from the date of purchase. The device must be in the original packaging and in the same condition that you received it. Apple TVs are not returnable or refundable if the shrink wrap has been removed, and must be returned via The UPS Store.
Apple will not accept any device or accessory returns purchased through Spectrum.
Any returned Apple TV devices or accessories for which refunds or replacements are given will become the property of Spectrum.
If your Spectrum account has been disconnected, please contact us for assistance in returning your equipment.

Our support page for returning your equipment lists all the various options and step-by-step instruction. Many customers find returning the equipment through a UPS store (not a franchise, a true UPS only store) to be very convenient. If you do that, make sure you keep the receipt they give you until you know for a fact it has been taken off your account.
Here is the UPS instructions from the Spectrum support website:
UPS Return
You can easily return Spectrum equipment by bringing it to any UPS Store. To return your equipment to a UPS Store:
- Use the UPS Store Locator tool to find the store nearest you. Note: Not all UPS locations are UPS Stores. Please use the link to find the nearest UPS Store.
- The UPS Store will handle packaging and shipping back to us at no charge to you. Just bring your equipment and tell UPS that you're a Spectrum customer, and they'll take care of the rest. Remember to hold on to your receipt for tracking purposes.
